Once in a while when I think when my racechip is on I'll pop the hood to see it's off. I thought it comes on everytime you turn the car on? Anyone has this problem?

The display should be on when the ignition is on, but the engine is NOT running.
Please do not open the hood while the engine is running (for safety reasons).

Well the racechip turns on 2 out of the 5 times. I believe I got a defective unit. Is there a setting where the display turns off? Like I said when I think it's on it's not. Fyi people open the hood when the cars on to see what going on all the time. If I dont how would I know the racechip is on? Btw the app is useless. It say its connected and on but when you look at the display on the unit it's off. What's the deal here?

I know. People can do what they want. We just don't tell them to do this. Any risk should be avoided and if the engine is running there are moving parts that can hurt you.
We also say that you should not open the hood when the engine is hot. We just don't want to get sued by someone who gets burned. If you hurt yourself doing something we told you not to do, it's not our problem.

The explanation is very simple. You can't use the display while the app is connected. You can either change the setting via app OR via the display - but not both at the same time.

I'm not sure what to believe. Have the app on with the car running and as I'm looking at the racechip display I can change the settings but your saying I can only use 1 or the other?

I think what he is saying, when using the app, that is your display now, not the unit. When not using the app, you use the display on the unit.

Ok just answer me this when the car is on the racechip display on the unit should be on all the time?

No, not if you are connected with the app.. the display on the unit will be off, the app is now your display.

And that's the answer I've been waiting for. Thank you. They should really put that in the instructions. Here I am thinking theres somethin wrong with the unit.

Ok I'm convinced that theres something wrong with my Rc unit. The problem is it's not always on! I can tell when it's on and when it's not on. It's on 3 of the 5 times I checked. The display is off and I would have to press the button to turn it on. So racechip please chime in.

Sorry for chiming in so late, I just saw this today. Please write me a private message with your order number. I know we were in contact before, but I cant find it at the moment. Thank you a lot!

Here are some facts about the display:
  • The display works independently from the tuning
  • The RaceChip is always "on", if not you would get a check engine light, because the signals are missing
  • The display is NOT always on, because it would unnecessarily use electricity (and the electricity is limited in the sensor system)
  • The display has a sleeping mode. It lights up for 120 seconds
  • When you press a button, the display turns on (for 120 seconds)
