I’m sure many here observed the fact that I had my Stinger tuned just a few days after bringing it home. This thread is about my experience with Todd and the results of his work, as much as I love to share my story with anyone willing to listen!

There are several options available to us, but I personally try to support local businesses and was delighted to find an established tuner in my back yard. If you dig into his web site or FaceBook page, you’ll find he works on the performance variants of German luxury cars as well.

As a result, it was a given that I would be visiting for my upgrade as soon as I had my Stinger – and the fact I bought it from Kia of Muncie – a 560 mile trip – meant she was ready for Todds magic by the time I got home. By happy circumstance, my daughter and friends were already planning a day at the drag strip before I could get on Todds calendar, so I had some baseline numbers for reference.

I hadn’t had much opportunity to use the electronic wizardry in the couple of days I’d owned her, but the stock numbers were pretty much in line with KIA marketing and everyone elses experience. I showed up as scheduled and rolled my new baby up into their workshop where Todd got right to work extracting the heart (or brain?) which was then laid out bare on his workbench to have the programming corrected.

I enjoyed discussing the various aspects of the changes they make. I have some knowledge of the concepts from motorcycle tuning, the differences and similarities were equally interesting. After some time hanging out and enjoying conversation with Todd’s business partner, my tune was completed and Todd was ready to take it out on the road.

At this point, it’s probably worth noting that I was not in any way disappointed with the stock performance of the Stinger. My first-evening 560 mile “christening” trip solidified that I had made a great decision. When I got in after Todd had worked his magic, it was such a noticeable transformation.

The most significant change is how effortlessly it propels itself along, and I don’t mean when you are heavy on the throttle. Even while cruising around in traffic, it feels like the throttle pedal is just a “speed setting” and when you command a change, it just happens without any drama. I’ve experienced this before, on a motorcycle with a modified ECU that produced the same result.

That said – heavy throttle change produces an almost immediate change in speed, and although the stock setup already provides of acceleration, you can tell there’s more going on under the hood.

Given the change in season, and the holiday season, I’ve not been able to get back to the same strip to get “official” numbers, but I do have a semi-pro data recorder that was “state of the art” around the time I bought it. Probably similar to the high-end apps available for cell phones today.

These devices can only be used legally on closed courses, of course, so (again) my opportunity to provide real-world data is limited. I’ve already shared some pics of the performance I’ve seen, and it’s a dramatic improvement over the stock numbers. I then installed K&N air filters, which honestly didn’t make any “butt-dyno” improvements, but I’ve got years of confidence they might make a bit of a difference.

So – would I recommend? Absolutely. In the spring, based on availability, we might put my baby up on the dyno and see what my actual numbers are. In the meantime, here’s some previous discussion:

Dyno (not mine): PRESSERtech Kia Stinger GT Dyno RESULTS!!
Kia Stock numbers: 365HP and 376LBS-FT
Pressertech Numbers: 459HP and 522LBS-FT

These are the pics that were already shared here, captured the same evening as the tune - before the ECU had any drive cycles on it, which will further adjust to the settings and driving style after being reset. Also before the K&N drop-in filters. The recording device is an Escort/Passport "G-Force" which cost a fair bit back when it was new, so I don't have much reason to question the accuracy. I will be running it every time I am at the strip so I can compare its numbers to measured results.

I need to bring up a post Todd shared back in July when he first worked on the Stinger:
I will say this though guys, given that we've tuned so many high end cars from top of the line Mercedes to McLaren's, this car is a serious piece of work. I really can't believe the build quality for the price you pay. This car will beat the hell out of say a 2014 Mercedes CLS550 and it's about half the price. To say its impressive doesn't do it justice.

I was ready to buy a $100k AMG when I first learned the Stinger was coming. I've been patiently waiting, reading, researching for almost two years. This car is comparable in quality, and with subtle modifications like this, equal (or better?) in performance.

Nice! It’s just a matter of time until I get this done. Just want to get a couple of other mods ready to go first. Great write up!

Congrats on the tune. I wonder why they havent done anything in nearly 6 months regarding the platform and also why they havent even added the platform on their site.

I wonder if they have a shop car. Unless you live locally how will they be able to adjust the tune for mods?

You'd have to mail them the ECU, most likely. Same as Tork.

At least it's easy to get to. On my Z06 I had to remove a fender to pull the ECU. That was fun.

my guess is that since they cater to high end imports, potential benz owners might see "Kia Tuner" on their website and immediately look else where.

They've also disappeared from the forum. The last time they posted anything was nearly two months ago. They probably gave up after realizing the market for ECU tuned Stingers isn't strong.

Lol.

Ya I get that you have to send the ecu, but how will they adjust for specific mods each car has if they dont have a shop car to know what each mod will do.

FYI they have not gave up and won’t be giving up anytime soon. They are currently working on a stage 3 tune which is for full bolt ons or bolt ons ...They have not updated website yet but will be doing so it has nothing to do with the fact is a Kia or they work on Mercedes. The reason they don’t post is because Todd is not the type to be active on any type of social media like that there main focus is actually running there shop , and working on R&D there not big on social media .... and you won’t see Todd on the forums going back and forward like Tork or Terry they stay away from that kind BS ....

Please keep up updated on dyno results and 1/4 times when you take to the track .... I will be driving to Atlanta this summer with my friend which has a stinger gt as well to get tuned by Presertech ... we will be taking a road trip from Illinois down to Atlanta. Good to hear you are happy, I can’t wait to meet the guys at Presertech and dive down there to get tuned by them. Are you planning to going to the track soon ?

Any info regarding the Stage 3 tune?

We have to get a stinger that wants to do stage 3. We will do our first at a discount for R&D. We can definitely upgrade the turbos to make a 3 second car! But will have to have intercooler work done by using a freon based chiller.

So when someone says they talked to you all and you said you're already working on a stage 3 tune that was just b.s.?

Is stage 2 what eflyguy has?

Possibilities of a stage 2.5 that will bridge the gap between the tune that made 60 hp extra and one that requires turbo upgrades?

Also be good to know what parts of the ecu you can modify in your tunes.
