Hi All,

Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on how to use a floor jack and jack stands with the "pinch weld" lift points.

Here are some options I have found online but am looking for advice from actual users if possible.

I've used modified hockey pucks in the past for my BMW's so that is an option too i suppose with the pinch weld. The only issue i see here is the depth of the actual weld and having that split the puck.

Also, has anyone found a successful "center" lift point for front and back? That is, use the center lift point and then place jack stands on the side pinch welds.

All of the links below "could" work i think. All depends on how deep and wide the pinch is versus the adapter.

Thanks

I actually had the car up on jack stands last week. If you get under the car the pinch weld runs the length of the car, however there is a cut out in the side skirt and underbody at the traditional jack points.

My jack has a flat circle that contacts the vehicle so I was able to jack up the car from just behind the traditional punch weld and slide in a jack stand.

Edit: the adapters you posted would work for the pinch weld where the body work it away from the weld but you wouldn’t then be able to put a jack stand in.

Thanks, i noticed the weld ran the length but i was under impression you "should" only lift from inbetween the two "notches" at the traditional jack points.

I did also notice the cutouts you mentioned but was not confident enough that the area would support the weight with a jack stand.

Just to be clear, did you have the jack stand "in" the cutout or on the pinch weld "next" to the cutout?

Uhhh, neither, both? So the jack stand has a Y shaped head, the pinch weld is in the valley of the Y. The two “arms” of the Y are in the cut outs of the plastic, one facing the outside of the car and the other on the inside. Hopefully that makes sense.

As to whether you “should” use the length of the weld it’s probabaly fine but the further you go from the wheel the less efficient the jack will be at raising the car so I got as close to it as possible while still having room to slide the jack stand in.

Thanks. My stands have shallow arms and valleys so I may need to look into some deeper welled ones. Or find a suitable adapter. Otherwise I fear the pinch will fold over on itself. Thanks

It won’t do that, it’s designed to take the weight of the car. Even if you have flat topped jackstands, if everything is lined up you will be fine.

Thanks. I've had jack points fail before so I m super cautious. Never had pinch welds before either so just playing it safe.

Cheers
