Pew pew pew noise on startup

I have to say I'd be absolutely FURIOUS if my dealer installed or left installed a GPS tracking device or kill switch on my car whether financed through them or not. Thankfully that would be illegal under North Carolina’s Cyberstalking statute (NCGS §14-196.3(b)(5) specifically prohibits a person from installing, placing, or using an electronic tracking device to track the location of a person without his or her consent). Though I assume they probably could include that in the loan language -- which I would never sign off on.

Yeah, I'm sure if that's what is causing it, there's something I signed by the end of it to release their liability. They were pretty f*cking annoying the whole time and by the time I finally got to the finance person I was exhausted and just wanted to be done with it and signed the shit they asked me to (stupid mistake, I know). I know for a fact it was not part of loan language, because I did not sign a loan. The car was purchased outright.

Are you sure a kid didn't leave their video game plugged into the rear power outlet, so it fires up when you start the vehicle?

That would be great!

I had a used car that had an aftermarket car alarm that caused me electrical issues -- the ignition kill kept me from starting the car eventually. I took it to an automotive electrical shop and they removed the whole thing. If you own the car outright, it would certainly be within your rights to remove it regardless. I'd send the dealer the bill.

If the other dealer can confirm that's what it is, this is 100% my plan. And I'll trash them on every review site I can find lol. Thing is it doesn't happen every turn on, especially if it has been used in the last ~hour so I really hope they're able to replicate it.

Where is the noise coming from? Inside the cabin? The engine bay? There's probably an aftermarket siren somewhere in the car. If they can't replicate the noise have them look for the siren making the noise.

Update: Dealer out here (CA) confirmed it is the aftermarket alarm making this noise. They also said they are unwilling/unable to remove it. I'm driving back to AZ (where I bought it and live) in 2 weeks... I guess I'll deal with it until then, but really looking for some sort of rectification from the dealer or at the very least, the alarm taken out. When I was originally getting the car, I had asked them to take off the thing before selling me the car. They said they would, we drove out to buy it, and then they said they couldn't.
While we were on the lot to buy the car, all detail figured out well in advance. Me thinking it already had been.

Shouldn't have let that fly, paying the price now :(

Thanks for the update.

Sucks for you. Who knows how much they butchered the wiring to install it..

Final update: got it into the purchasing dealer today. They’re completely removing the alarm and are actually writing me a check for the amount I “paid” through their deal for the alarm. Really turned this from a 1 star experience to a 5 star experience. Makes the deal I got on the car $800 better too!!

Glad you were able to get it fixed and come out ahead! How often does that happen? It pays to be persistent.

Hey! Are you sure this is an aftermarket thing? It’s also happening on my brothers stinger. Unless you returned yours and he has it now? Haha let me know!

Howdy and welcome to you and your brother. :P

Best reason of all not to buy a Kia. Way too many dealers are the new car version of a buy here/pay here lot.

This just nails that down. They put this crap on the car for their own purposes and then lie to you. 5 star? Had to drive BACK to Arizona to get it resolved? That's criminal.

Ok mine does this upon shutdown. A single “pew” from driver’s side. i’ve had the car a couple of weeks now, and I am debating taking it in. No one’s car makes a noise when being shut off (except the shutdown serenade music, of course)
