My car is currently sitting in the service center at Kia. I took it in to have the turbo oil feed pipe and hose assembly recall done. They are now saying I need a new engine. My car is below 60k miles and is a 2019 gt2 AWD. Kia is basically trying to hose me on this engine.

This recall has turned out to be a nightmare. They said they found metal shavings in the turbo that has unfortunately circled through my engine. But are claiming it’s not from their recall. Has anyone else had these issues with this specific recall?

Moving this topic out of the community lounge and into the main Stinger forum...

If you're the original owner it's 10 year 100k miles on the drivetrain (in the US). If you don't have any mods that they can (or are trying to) blame for the metal shavings and you're under warranty, it's on them to fix the issue regardless of the recall. Unless of course they're going to try to claim that you didn't do proper maintenance which I wouldn't put past them on trying.

I would want to see evidence of this alleged metal shavings in the oil...

I would be extremely skeptical.

So you took the car in for a free recall. Ask Kia to do the recall and hand the car back to you.

It is that simple.

You can take it elsewhere to get evaluated but what you do not have to do is accept what they tell you other than the recall which they are required to fix ie replace an oil feed pipe.

You owe them nothing.

Go get your car.

Unfortunately I am the second owner and just a few months past the 5 year mark for the power train warranty.

Hence why I call them "Stealerships".

A 7 year unlimited km warranty in Australia means just that. It is not specific to the owner. It is specific to the car.

It can have many owners in 7 years and is still covered by the new car warranty until the end of 7 years.

Damn, that sucks! I assume your Stinger was running fine prior to the recall w/ no issues whatsoever? Have you had the car long, or long enough to know all was good? If so, the car was fine, took it for the recall, never got to drive it after the recall repair, and the dealer says motor shot, that sounds sketchy as hell :(

Did the recall last week. Not even 300 Km after I have a blown engine. Dont know the cause at the moment but i find it weird that it happened right after the recall.

What is "blown" with your engine?
Any pics/video of the "blown" engine?
Who diagnosed the "blown engine"?
What were the symptoms you observed prior to the diagnosis?

-Knocking sound in the base of the engine and in the upper left side of the engine.
-I actually do. We hear it a little on the video. I will try to post it here later
-Kia dealership diagnosed the engine. Im a mechanic and based on the sound that its doing I don't doubt them at all
-I was passing someone on the highway. Nothing excessive. No symptoms before. And also no light were lit on the cluster. Everything was normal. I tought at first my splash shield under the car has detached and was rubbing on the wheel, but when i turned down the volume of the radio i realised it was the engine. The low oil pressure light was on. Went on the side of the highway. Engine temperature was normal (no overheat). oil level was good. Nothing abnormal beside the fact it was knocking like crazy. Decided to get off the highway before calling a towing. And its a this moment that when i restarted the engine the low oil pressure light was gone and the knocking sound has reduced a bit.
-Im waiting that my advisor call me back with news. Kia told them to open the engine for knowing the cause. I have an extended warranty but Kia is trying to find something to make me pay for it

Well holy shit, that sounds awful.
Good luck, I can't imagine what they might have done that would cause this catastrophic failure.

Hopefully this is covered under warranty, I suspect you are in for a fight, even if you do have extended warranty, there is likely to be some pushback.

Good luck

Please do share the video if you can

So you drove the vehicle after the recall and that's when the knocking and low pressure light came on? If so, that's messed up :(
Hope they make it right for you, sounds way too coincidental that the motor is ruined after they had their hands on it.

There are already some pushback unfortunately. An engine assembly cost 20K$ CAN, without labor. Obviously Kia is searching to find something to void my warranty. They even asked the technician to take picture of my car. Everything ! They are searching for modification, Aftermarket exhaust, even stickers of a racetrack could void it. I did my last oil change by my self. I gave them the receipt of the oil and the filter was one from kia. They said that this doesn't prove that I actually did it. ( my oil is still clear in my engine )

Here is the video at the idle, when the oil pressure was back. So the knocking sound at this moment isn't as loud as when it happened

I drove like 300km yes.

I don't think you want to hear this, but sharing it anyway.

If you have the Canadian Kia 5 Star warranty (MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN PROTECTION, MBP) and purchased it with your car when new, like I did, you are explicitly not permitted to change your own oil or perform your own maintenance (page 4 of 8 in the MBP document, section 10, CONTRACT HOLDER'S MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES), while maintaining the extended warranty. They documented this in the fine print very clearly, unfortunately.

I do my own oil changes as well, and I hope I I'm never in your position.

I have used my extended warranty successfully for approximately $8,500 worth of repairs, but none were engine related.

Yes i've just read my contract. It is written that we cant do our own service work on the car unfortunately. I will see what there are going to say

Believe it or not, but I was gonna’ run my car to the dealership and drop it off today so they could do the recall fix. They said that they have done over 40 of them. At least according to the car lot. But even reading stories like this, I am very hesitant on getting this done. I think I’m just gonna’ skip getting it done. I don’t need any problems because I don’t have any problems. I’m just gonna’ avoid it all together I think. The only thing they did for me was change my oil for me last week. And that was enough. I’m good on this recall though.

I found a local shop that does the oil change for fairly cheap, I just supply the filter since its not one they stock. For events like this, exactly why I do it.

Sadly there's fewer and fewer companies standing behind the products they sell.
