Hey everyone!

I own a 2020 Stinger GT RWD as my signature says.

Car is coming up on 6000 miles pretty soon. I am following the maintenance book to the letter when it comes to intervals by mileage or months, but, I am a bit confused about the type of oil I should be using.

I have been reading different threads and posts here and some information seems to be conflicting. There are posters saying that if you don't use the oil that Kia says is required then you are potentially going to run into denied warranty claims if certain problems occur. I understand though that under the USA law they must prove that the problem was caused by the specific variable in question. I am seeing different brands and grades being used in addition to different quart amounts which is rather confusing for me.

With that said, I want to just confirm (for my own sanity and "anxiety") by asking people here who are professionals and of course far better educated than myself in this subject matter.

Can I use six quarts of Mobil1 Synthetic 5w-30 for my vehicle or should it be the 5w-40? Is six quarts enough if I am following the interval changes of 6000 miles or use seven quarts? The quarts recommended really seem to vary from what people say in different threads.

Thank you everyone so much!

the oil capacity is 7.3q per manual, around 1 qt is stuck inside the oil cooler, no way to take it out and that's fine. so the amount to refill is around 6.5 quart, need to check dipstick frequently while filling, make sure car is level.

5w-30 has a flexible enough temperature range for most climates in US, so 5w-30 is good.

I personally checked project farm's oil test video on youtube to evaluate the oil brand. Amsoil is the best oil in the universe probably, if you could find it. I am a huge fan of all amsoil products. It has 25000 miles guaranteed performance, need to change oil filter more frequently though. There is Wix, other than oem Mahle brand for filter. I use Wix, they are good, high quality. order from amazon. if you care about the evaporation point, so that relatively less carbon build-up(but still will happen, unavoidable) Pennzoil Ultra Platinum has a good performance but it is not an extended performance oil, should keep the 6k interval. Then comes Mobil1 Extended performance, now they offer 20K guarantee, but that oil evaporates more, and everybody says the oil level is going down through time, meaning oil is burning some way. so, the brand is up to you. Don't forget you have two turbos, so the oil choice matters.

if you don't want to do the work yourself, you can always bring 2 bottles of 5qt oil of a brand of your choice, and filter of your choice to dealer and ask them to replace with customer provided oil (and filter). That's not gonna do anything to do with warranty. As long as you don't bring shitty non-synthetic oil or a blend... that is a problem. Make sure you get full synthetic.

Frequency:
I'm super anal retentive, and I hope to keep my Stinger for a long time. As such, I did my first oil change (but not filter change) about a week ago at 1,000 miles. I'll do the next one (incl. filter) at 5,000 and every 5,000 thereafter. Am I wasting my money? Eh . . . maybe. But it doesn't cost me that much to change my oil, and I like getting under the car and doing the work anyway.

Oil Type:
Any 5W-30 will do, so long as it meets or exceeds ACEA A5/B5 standards. To see whether it does you can look on the back of the bottle; it will tell you there. You can also find spec sheets on the oil manufacturers' websites. Not all 5W-30 oils will meet or exceed ACEA A5/B5. In fact - not all 5W-30 oils of the same brand will meet or exceed ACEA A5/B5, so make sure you're getting the right one.

Thank you both VERY much for your prompt replies and help! I greatly appreciate it! :)

I think I will go with the Mobil1 Synthetic Full Synthetic Oil 5W-30 in that case! Probably after this oil change I will do one every 6 months or 5000 miles just to be safe. I do plan to keep this car under warranty and ownership for a minimum of ten years.

Last question, and rather foolish, but what oil filter should I be using? The "Wix" filter is the correct one?

The reason I am asking is this is my first Korean car and I will be getting it serviced at a local certified (and very trusted) mechanic but want to tell them specifically what to use. This is the same shop my buddy has been getting his Hellcat and E63 serviced for years but he told me to tell them specifically what I want used since I am driving a new car and under warranty so therefore the records should line up correctly.

Thank you again everyone!

What does ACEA A5 or higher mean? As it makes no sense. Would ACEA A3 be higher? Since A3 has a higher HTHS viscosity and is therefore a more stout oil.

My bad - I should've said "meet" not "meet or exceed." I've corrected my original post. For me, I look at the back (or at the spec sheet) and make sure it says ACEA A5/B5 on it.

While on the subject, the dealership offers free maintenance for the first year on my 2021 GT. Does anyone know what they consider the interval to qualify for the free change? 5,000 miles? 7,500 miles? Or is this different from dealer to dealer?

Yeah as long as it says ACEA A5/B5 its good to go. And the A5 standard is always 5w30 viscosity as HTHS levels for A5 are 2.9 >3.5 which I believe are covered mostly by 0w30/5w30

The owner's manual says the oil needs to be changed once every 12 months / 6,000 miles / 10,000 km, whichever comes first. My guess is you'd probably get 2 oil changes out that.

Yup, at the rate I'm putting on miles I'll reach 12,000+ miles before the year is up. Thanks.

Nothing but Mobile 1 full synthetic 5W 30 every 4500 miles. Small price to ensure internals of engine and turbos are clean with zero sludge buildup. I have used it for decades. Had a 1990 Chevy sport truck with 350. engine. Bought fresh with 6000 miles and always used mobile 1. Won’t forget day a friend who is long time seasoned mechanic and myself opened up the motor to have heads ported. At 150,000 miles the inside of motor looked literally brand new. My friend who has rebuilt countless engines could not believe it. He used to give me crap about spending extra money for synthetic but - no more. It made a huge impression on both of us that day.

We went with 7 quarts of Mobil Super Synthetic 5W-30 and will do the next oil change in 5000 miles... possibly even 4500 to be on the safer side...

This was at a local trusted mechanic that my buddy has known for years...

The guy was legit and very good...

I use Quaker State Advanced Durability 5w30 Synthetic. I had mine changed at 1000km, 5000km then 10000km. Moving forward I will be doing it every 10000km. I also have an oil catch can installed. The Quaker bottles specifically say designed for Turbo vehicles.

I hope you mean ultimately durability. The QS ultimate actually looks a little more stout than PP.

Ultimate Durability it is
