3.3TT Oil Catch Can?

May i suggest a warning on the first page and a warning at the video Dustin made.
So that people who read only the first few pages are warned not to go ahead with this type of install.

I was told by a district service manager, no it won't unless they can show the occ caused the problem

Funny because here at my dealer near Tacoma, WA I can't get a straight answer. They told me to contact consumer affairs..

Anyone got any suggestions on how to proceed? I can find a mechanic to install catch cans.. I just don't want to be stuck fighting KIA if the dealer I go to for service is going to be an obstacle toward any warranty work.

how to proceed?

You have to understand, that all you are doing when you mount an OCC is adding a container in line, for the purpose of filtering out/collecting crap.
You are only adding a few inches of hose and the cans.
The service manager at the KIA dealership where I bought the car had OCCs installed in his own Subaru WRX.
He used my car during the second oil change as an instruction tool to the other mechanics, also showing how to use the Fumoto valve that I had installed earlier.
Fumoto valves are also items that not everybody in the car industry is familiar with, although they and similar valves have been around for decades.
You are dealing with ignorant and uneducated individuals.
Inform yourself. Look at other forums. If you are not comfortable, don't do it. Good luck. :)

I think *you* have to understand.. that *I* understand completely. My problem is that I do *NOT* want to get into a pissing contest with my KIA dealership over something that while *they* may understand what it is do *not* want to either endorse or encourage the installation. This would leave me having to fight with them if something warranty-related should arise. The odd part is that they had no problem with my doing that to the 2.0T 2012 Optima SX I had (in fact they offered to do the installation *for* me).

At this point I'm trying to gauge what KIA Consumer Affairs will do or how they would react or respond to the request.

You were asking how to proceed....
I finished by saying if you are not comfortable, don't do it.
All that, before you disclosed you had it done to your Optima. If it's the same dealer, what has changed?
I doubt KIA H.O. will give you a straight answer.
I don't go to my selling dealer anymore, since he charged me $97 for my first out of six "free" oil changes.
Service is done at an independent mechanic. A KIA dealership close by will take care of updates and TSB related matters and warranty repairs if and should they occur.
You could also consider quick-connect connectors and take the can(s) out before going to a dealership.

Well, that's part of the reason I'm here.. I think personally they're skittish and/or full of it. If they install it, of course, they have to stand behind it. And I think they felt comfortable with the 2.0T that they didn't have an issue. But with the 3.3TT? I talk to them about it they get very anxious about the topic. From my own research the consensus from other groups and owners is 'as long as the flow of air is the same with the exception of the cans being spliced into it, it won't be a problem'.

Yea I think that response was their 'kicking the can' so to speak. That way they absolve themselves of any hassles from KIA corporate.

I have free oil changes for life from my dealer - I do,however, pay for my own oil (there's no way I'll let them put their OEM crap in that car). That's a shame you got jerked around by your dealer. I do have an independent mechanic.. and there's a lot I have him do for non-warranty type work.. I only just got this car in August and I don't think he's even seen it yet.

You could also consider quick-connect connectors and take the can(s) out before going to a dealership.

That's an interesting idea... I had not thought of that. Is there a type you'd recommend? Any links would be appreciated. BTW I did see your how-to that you created on this topic.. thank you for doing the pic showing the airflow and tubing.. when I take this to my local mechanic I'm sure he'll find that useful (even tho he'd probably be able to tell when he eyeballs it). I'm just going to install them. I can't possibly see any reason it would be an issue.

FWIW, i installed my own and Dealer said nothing about it during first oil change other than, "nice oil catch!"

I already spoke to my mechanic who works on most of my cars.. he's already looking up kits with the fittings etc to order for me. If KIA bitches I'll have that fight with them later.

But after all the crap I saw catch cans capture all I can say is that crap CANNOT be good for the turbos OR any part of the intake system..

Bought my cans from the K8 Stinger Store and got them installed by my (non-dealer) mechanic. Looks great.. he even made a bracket for it. They look great.. looking forward to seeing the results..

Hope the vacuum lines don’t cause you any issues! Should be an oil resistant tube such as fuel line. Noticed it says vacuum on the drivers side can.

I'm pretty sure it'll be fine.. that's one of the hoses that came with the cans...

Did the cans come with installation instructions specifically for the Stinger?
