I got a recall notification and decided to go make an appointment for the service, heard the service advisor tell another customer the chip shortage is now affecting other parts. I checked out the repair area that usually have a full bay, there were 3 cars being worked on and I noticed they were loaning Subarus, tells me they were out of Audi loaners. I can only imagine how many vehicles are airing awaiting parts. After I left, I drove by the rest of the dealers to see their inventory. They have a good inventory of used cars but the new car area is low or have no cars parked there. Checked out a couple of KIA stores looking to see if they had an EV6 on display and man, they had almost no cars. Lexus had none, Jeep had a few of the new Cherokee L, but the 1 or 2 of the others. Mazda had cars and SUVs, Infiniti was out, Toyota also looked bleak, Volvo also had a lot of used but a handful of new. Oh yeah, Audi also had little new vehicles, the sales floor had used cars on display.
Things certainly are not what they used to be before the lockdown and are progressively getting worse. I’m sure dealers are feeling the pinch as well, which is why they are offering good prices to take in used cars, so they can sell at a higher price. Let’s hope this gets better sooner rather than later.
