I just got laid off from work, they're paying me for ~2 months to do nothing, so I have time to trade in order to reduce costs. But, not like $50 / 20 hours vs $200 / 5 hours. I had thought about paying an audio place $1K+ to do some - I can now do all that work and take my time.

I DO take my car to the track (HPDE), so I'm not looking to make it unfunctional for that (i.e. add stuff that would make it hard to take to the track), but it's also my daily, and it's a bit noisy for roadtrips with 285s in the back, etc. I don't mind adding some weight, even though that's not "race car" like - I do this for fun, not for trophies.

I just did exhaust tips, and I can tell it's maybe 10-15% better / quieter. I'm debating about going back to OEM intakes (I currently have DIY Spectre filters).

I figure the trunk is an easy place to start? I have a cheap heat gun (Harbor Freight) - IIRC, some of the stuff needs that.

So, what's a good bang-for-buck material that's doable for a newbie? All-in-one is probably better, so I don't have to do multiple layers? Unless it's way better, and not that much more work?

Thanks.

I added some sound deadening to my trunk..

Quick and easy, noticeable affect.

I used some relatively inexpensive butyle self adhesive stuff from Amazon.

Noico 80 mil (2mm) 36 (3.4 sqm) sqft car Sound deadening mat, Butyl Automotive Sound Deadener, Audio Noise Insulation and dampening

Thanks. Roughly how much did you need? All 36 sq. ft? Did you use a heat gun? I saw some people used one, but not sure if it was for this type of material or something else.

Noico is $26 for 10 sq. ft, but then $220 for 36 sq. ft? To get 36 sq. ft. (what seems to be a normal "trunk" amount), would be 4 x $26, or > $100.

I see Siless 80 mil is 36 sq. ft. for $65, $69 for black, with similar reviews. Any reasons NOT to get black? I think it would look better in my ceramic silver trunk..

Kilmat is $65 for 25 sq. ft 100 mil instead of 80 mil. And then there's Siless 3-in-1 200 mil, 25 sq. ft for $75.

All of these are in my price range, just wondering if 100 mil is 25% better than 80 mil for this? What about the 200 mil stuff? It seems to not be 100% butyl rubber.

I'd rather spend the extra $50 right off the bat and get a better result.

You are not meant to see this stuff, ever.

It's entirely hidden from view.

No heat for me, just used a roller.

I used roughly half the box...
Lots left over for other areas/projects.

I chose this brand solely cause it was economical when I ordered it. It is quite dense, and works well for me.

It's all the same stuff really, just get what's in stock.

Thanks. Some people reported smell with Noico, asphalt like substance from Siless? (just reading amazon reviews)

Is Dynamat extreme considered "the best"? I mean, it's $175 for 36 sq. ft, vs. $75. Is it harder to install? Any odors? My family has some pretty strong allergies / sensitivities, so if I added a strong rubber smell to my car for a month, that would be very bad.

$175 for "the best" is still definitely in my budget.

Just read someone saying for road noise, MLV is the best? So if I'm trying to cut down on road noise, should I be looking at an MLV solution? What about Luxury Liner Pro?

Sorry for all the questions. I'd much rather pay a little extra / do more research than try to rip this kind of stuff out and redo it :-)

You can check out my build log, first post has some sound deadening info.

I'd say the most noticeable areas for me, from most to least, would be doors, wheelwells, trunk, and floor.
Frankly I wouldn't bother with the floor if I could do it again.

Resonix is by far the best CLD, but it's too expensive to do full coverage like most people seem to do (which is not really necessary). Your money would be better spent putting the CLD only on large flat surfaces, then covering the whole area with a sound blocking material like MLV.

Has anyone disassembled the side trim in the trunk? Where to start? Wanna give it a go there as well:

Not yet but it's on my summer plans to do the wheel arches

How did this go for you? Based on my ears over rough road, the trunk is the location easiest to treat and through which the most noise seems to infiltrate the cabin. Wheel wells would be next, then the floorboards/under the seat. Curious on the results, it's something I can see myself trying (if not with the Stinger, maybe a future car).
