In the past, Americans who wanted a more practical alternative to a four-door sedan didn’t have many options. They could either buy one of the few wagons on the market, or they could make the jump to a crossover. But recently, a couple automakers have followed the Audi A7‘s lead, offering liftback sedans that pair the look of a traditional sedan with the practicality of a wagon or small crossover. In the case of the Kia Stinger GT and Buick Regal GS, buyers also get an added dash of performance mixed in with all that practicality. The question is, though, how do they compare?

How the 2018 Buick Regal GS Stacks up Against the Kia Stinger GT - Motor Trend

Didn't see this on here...if it's a duplicate please delete.

5.1 seconds 0-60 for the GT2 AWD? Please tell me that’s not right

The article is quite disappointing. Basically just covers specs... I was looking more for something Head to Head-ish...

But thank you for the update and link!

Totally agree, I kept looking for a second page to read, it was like it ended half way through.

MT is always a little slow on testing(5.1) and C&D is usually fast(4.6), so I’d guess somewhere in the middle would be close. I took and would suggest the RWD version to save that extra 0.4 seconds, cause every bit helps!

AWD should provide better traction off the line but from what I read the AWD GT puts 100% power to the rear wheels when using launch control, negating the benefit of AWD off the line traction.

That plus the extra weight of the AWD versions should add a couple of ticks to the clock.

C&D got a 4.4 sec. 0-60 time. Google "Kia Stinger specs" and click the caranddriver link.

4.4 is for the RWD GT2. The AWD is 0.2-0.4 seconds slower due to weight. My 4.6 quote was from the C&D AWD test.

I wonder if buyers of the Regal GS are going to be replacing the "Buick" badges as soon as they get the car.

Why would they? The Buick badge is MUCH more significant in the U.S. than Kia. Also, people really dislike the KIA badge - you never hear people talking about how they hate the Buick badge. Also, people simply don't like that KIA stands for "Killed In Action" (military). There are several reasons for people disliking the Kia badge. Not so for Buick.

Great question! LOL!

I can’t wait when I tell people - casually - yah, got a new car. “Really, what’d ya get?” They will ask and I’ll simply say “Eh, I just got a Kia.” And inside feel a little smirk coming on... they have no idea.

That’s exactly what I do :)

Yeah, what did you order? Just a little 6-cyl. Kia. My friends know I'm a Detroit V8 fanatic. :p

I’ve only done one run so far and this is without using launch control...this is starting from idle rpm only. I was able to squeeze out 4.52 sec. Oh, this was with me (210lbs and a 290lb passenger)

Motor Trend conducts testing with equipment that adjusts their results to a certain standard for weather conditions. Its possible to have conditions better suited for an acceleration run. (cooler temperatures for example)

http://www.motortrend.com/news/motor-trend-testing/
With that data tied to each vehicle, we then use the Society of Automotive Engineers’ SAE J1349 procedure as a guide to correct all acceleration results to standard operating conditions: 77 degrees F (25 C), 29.2348 inches mercury (Hg) barometric pressure (99 kPa), and zero percent relative humidity.

Is that an app?

Wow that's impressive and wonder how accurate it is? GPS style tests usually have a wide margin of error compared to track tests. But if you're correct then my RWD may run as fast as 4.1?!? Ive heard that the first few batches of GTs may be over powered compared to manufacture specs but low 4s are on another level! These are S7 and C43 times! So excited to get over 600m so I can finally enjoy full throttle.:D

I’ll try and do a couple runs tomorrow. From most articles that I’ve seen...the Stinger should be able to do 4.6/4.7 0-60. Considering that I have AWD, I should have a quicker launch than RWD (street tire to street tire). RWD Stingers should catch up quicker though.

What I’ll try and do is a couple 0-60 runs, then add in some launch control and finally some decently high rpms launches.

A buddy of mine said the app keeps the history of each run, so I can hopefully post on each result.

The app also can track all 1/4 miles as well. So when the track opens in a couple days...I’m hoping to get some 1/8, at minimum, runs and see how close the app is.

Just to show no runs so far, but what it’s capable of tracking:
