So I just got my AWD GTS last week, dealer said they replaced all 4 tires but that's not the case, looks like the rears are new PS4's but the fronts are fairly worn down PS'4s, only 13,000 miles on the car. All the forum reading I've been doing lately seems like the PS4's wear down really quick on the AWD's so I'm thinking about switching to Continentals most people really seem to like (plus 4.5 stars out of 3000+ on Tirerack).

Is there any problems if I replaced the fronts with Continentals and the rears will still have the new PS4's?

I mix my tires based on price and availability.
Swap between Michelin PS4S and Indy 500's

PS4S are better, but WAY more $$

Handling and wet traction will of course be affected when you mix.

Enjoy.

Firstly, I would not mix. I did that on my Stinger and quickly regretted it. The car became very unpredictable.
Secondly, my car came with Continental SportContact 5 from factory (19"). I now have the Michelin PS4. The Michelins are WAY better both in comfort and progressive feel in spirited driving.
However, I do have Contis for winter and they are amazing (TS860S) and I've heard the new SportContact 7 are great.

What tires did you mix?

All seasons on one axle, and ultra high performance summer on the other?

Or two pairs of ultra high performance summer?

conts are def great, they were my first choice but i went w ps4s bc my job couldnt get my fronts in.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I would allow mixing if unavoidable in order to get tires on the car at all, rather than wait weeks-months like back in covid supply chain fubar. But I would not mix types. As already suggested, high performance "summer" tires, or A/S tires, but not half of each, that would be asking for squirreliness in handling and gription in the wet.

2 pairs of UHP summers. Fronts were the OEM Continentals with 2 summers on them and rears were a pair of new Nokian Powerproof.
I think the Nokian had a much softer sidewall because the car balance was totally off. You could feel the front and rear were reacting in different ways. I kept them for 2 weeks and then changed the fronts to Nokians and it was all good.

Well yea I wouldn't mix 2 different types, but in this case 2 different A/S brands? I'm probably ignorant here but arn't the PS4's all season?

The PS4 certanly performs like an all season if you watch the reviews, they come came standard on the Stinger here in Canada for that reason.

I just bought a set of PS4S to replace the stock PS4 for summer/track use and have a set of PSAS4 18's coming for the rain and snow.
Funny this time last year I couldn't care less about tire compounds. Snow + All Season and I was done. Then I went to the track...

I just replaced all PS4s with Kumho PA51s 2 days ago. They're ultra high performance all season tyres with a treadwear of 500. They're more comfort-oriented, compared to the PS71s.

^^Thanks. Learned something and it's still morning. Hah. The most important thing about this is that you cannot compare treadwear, traction and temperature grades with other tire brands, only with other tires of the same manufacturer.

So if I wanted all 4 same size and no staggard, would you recommend going all 4 being 255/35/19 or 225/40/19?

My practical self says 225 is wide enough and the best for snow. My forever kid side says wider tires look more cool, so, 255 all around. If these are your winter setup it makes no sense to make that less practical by going wider.

I don't understand this number. 500 what?

500 UTQG
The treadwear marking demonstrates how long a tire can last. Treadwear has a range between 100-1000, where, for example, an 800 UTQG tire will last twice as long as a 400 UTQG tire. Tire treadwear performance is evaluated on a specific roadway course approximately 400 miles in length, which is established by the NHTSA.
