3.3TT Mishimoto's Stinger GT Intercooler Kit R&D Thread

How could you wait so long? Vs stock the car should definitely feel faster
I was gonna pull the trigger for the Wagner but then saw Mishimoto and preferred the whole kit and piping.
Just finished installing mine. All went well, just missing skin on my hands here and there. Although, I ran into difficulty with the merger piece. it took some time and effort get it work/installed. Has anyone experienced that? It felt like mine was 1/2 inch winder than stock one.
Same here, I think half of my hand skin is scattered in the garage somewhere :cry:

I had a hard time getting the merge pipe couplers to align especially on the driver side turbo. What worked for me is to install the couplers on the turbo first then lightly tighten them and then install the merge pipe.

Taking into consideration the minor clearance issues with the cold pipe, overall it is a nice kit.

Hey guys, logan here.
Intercooler installed, the fit is great, the pipes are clean. Only shame is it almost looks oem under the hood ^_^
Very happy with the resluts too.
No draggy app but my ass will tell you
3k-6k harder pulls
2k up smoother pulls
Car feels 'lighter' even tho thats not what happened
May just be me but stronger pedal response
Great airflow as my tial 50mm bov no longer flutters, only hard crisp purge.

One thing i need to say.
The bov/ recirculate ports on the merge pipe...
The holes are very slightly wider than oem.
If you have oem bovs no problem but i have a y pipe to a single large bov
Had to drill out my mounting holes (fit perfect with oem) and it does work fine. Im talking a few mm further apart than oem so i forgive you guys.

Beware! I have stated my only complaint about the kit.
Good day.

Thanks for the write-up! Good to know you noticed an improvement in multiple areas. What do you have for other mods on your car?

For the guys running WMI, make sure the nozzle is threaded in their deep. The bung used is quite thick and you don't want to run into the spray hitting the sides before spreading. You can test this by purging it before the pipe is installed to check. I have to change my nozzle and I am planning to trim the bung until the nozzle is almost flush with the inside when fully tight.

Curious how this is working with the BMS adapter then. I never thought about the spray in the tube and ensuring that it is spraying correctly, but is a really good point.

After driving around the past couple days my IATs are definitely up during “in and around town” driving compared to what they’ve been. It builds way faster in traffic now than pre-Mishi aftercooler.

I’ve been watching IATs very closely after installing @Rakker ’s snorkels and then the added benefit after I cut out the outboard cells in the non ‘smart cruise control’ GT grill, fully exposing the snorkels to the outside air. I had this mod in the back of my mind the whole time wondering if I’d see even lower temps.

I’m going to order a sheet of this heat reflective tape, pull the charge pipe and give the lower portion behind the radiator a wrap. I doubt it was by accident Kia added all that tar-like insulation to the OE charge pipe. View attachment 51280
Very interested to hear your results. I was actually thinking about pulling the CP and wrapping the whole thing. Certainly can't hurt and it looks freaking awesome haha!

Aem semi boxed intakes
Hks plugs at .028
And a heavy foot
:)
Haha, that last mod has to be worth at least +25HP ;)

I'm definitely interested to see if I can "feel" any difference when I finish installing my downpipe and intercooler. I tend to be skeptical of any gains when I make any upgrades. That said, I'm more concerned with making my car "happier" with the JB4 Map 2 tune than I am with feeling any noticeable gains anyway so as long as my logs look good, it's a win for me .

The goals in my mind for supporting mods is always to end up with a tune to maximize the gains.
The warranty has me in car prison but im sneaking in all mods that are ok

Ok I have postponed my install due to some saying the in town driving has seen an increase in the IAT.

@Mishimoto I know you said you where going to have your team look into this. Curious as if there is an update to the possible cause of this new found information and possible solution. Or should I just install it and when/if a cause and solution is found deal with the update then. Do you see a resolution anytime soon, or are we thinking this will be months down the road if there is even one? Thank you in advance for your response.

Just install the kit lol

I would, but I would hate to have to pull it off in a few weeks if there is an update to it.

I've thought the same. At the very least, I'll put some sort of heat shielding/insulation on the pipe before installing. I'm not sure what I want to use yet, though. There's lots of snake oil out there so I need to do a good amount of research first.

I was thinking the same thing, I was trying to see if ceramic coating would be a good thing. I can find stuff on ceramic coating the hot side and that it is good, but nothing on the cold side and if it will help.

There will be no update
well Mishimoto said they would look into this and possibly give an answer or a solution, so I would not say without them saying there would be no update. However you could be completely on point.

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought ceramic coating would have made a big difference since it's such a thin layer. I'll have to look into that.

Im confused. If you are hearing something that contradicts what we are all hearing on the forum. Take measurments of your intake air temp now. Install. Check again... i am trusting the company. And the testemony ive read of iat being only a few degrees higher than ambient. I would hate to be wrong. But im happy with better charge and with my mod :)

this what a few in this thread are saying. That’s why I’m saying what I am saying.
