Michelin Pilot Sport 4s

Hi,

It seems that the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s get very good reviews although I believe I have read some comments here that people were not that impressed with them on the Stinger?

I’d be interested in hearing some reviews for these tires. Handling in the dry/wet, road noise etc. If you do, appreciate if you include if you’re running a square or staggered setup.

I bought my Stinger and it already had Aftermarket rims and tires installed so have not been able to play with the Michelins.

Additionally, if you have changed tires and are impressed with your new setup, I’d be interested in hearing that too.

I have limited experience. This my first brand new car, ever. And also I have never owned a car with high performance tires before.

Being somewhat of an audiophile, the noise level in the cabin is something I am sensitive about. Apparently the Michelins are a lot quieter than the 18s (Bridgestones as OEM). I find that hard to imagine, since I find the Michelin summer tires noisy enough! Most of the time the road surface is okay. But some surfaces don't interact with the tires in a wholly satisfying way. I want less noise coming in. However, the volume can be turned up and the RPMs can be reduced in Eco. So far I've not felt any need to look for different tires to try for less road noise.

The tires are quite simply the best I have ever driven with. I've pushed my car corning more and more as the months have passed, and I have yet to hear the first "chirp" out of them. When someone says, "I think the 8" front tires should be wider to improve grip", I don't even know what they are talking about.

I've had these tires up to 155 MPH without the first qualm. The tires stayed quiet, that is to say that they did not increase to a howl or start to misbehave in any way. I felt that it was safe to go faster yet (but the road did not stay straight forever; and I am not ready to start pressing into corners at those speeds!).

I'm going to swap these tires for winter tires. Otherwise I'd just leave them on till they need replacing.

155!!! Holy balls. I haven't even taken her over 90 yet. Well done. I do like the tires and they are some of the quietest I've ever heard on a hatchback.

So the OE tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is a different tire. It’s the new version of the Pilot super sport. Are you asking about those or the OE tire?

I thought the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S were replacing the Michelin Pilot Sport. I was not aware there was a 4?

As noted above the Stinger comes with Pilot 4 not 4S, two different tires. The Pilot 4S is one level above in performance over the 4, not sure if any member has this on their car yet. You can check further back in the suspension and tire section for that.

I bet in the next few months we'll start seeing some negative reviews of the OE Michelins when people-either unknowingly or stupidly-start driving them in sleet, snow, or sub-freezing temps.

Alot of folks are used to having AS tires and don't realize their Michelins (or any max performance summer tire for that matter) will try to kill them when it gets cold.

I am currently running on 4S and I have to say its firmer. Noise level very acceptable for me for a high performance tyre but you do hear it in the background but not at your face. Its flat directional change is phenomenal and grip is everywhere. Being sensible of course! This is the tyre to go for if fast street handling and occasional tracking is your cup of tea. For certain this tyre side wall does not roll over in hard cornering, steering feedback from the tyre is there but still marginally muted , braking is consistent and the bonus treadwear is rated at 300 if I remember correctly. Do take note ride is slightly on the firm side especially when you just started driving even in comfort mode. It does improve once you have driven awhile once the suspension adapts.

Lol! You are so right on this. Lots of folks buy the higher performance vehicle as they like how it looks and think that because it has AWD, the tires don’t matter. When they have an accident in winter or get stuck because they don’t have traction, they blame the dealer for selling them a vehicle with improper tires. That last Mazda RX that was out some years back had a bunch of folks stranded by a mild dusting of snow, as they were trying to drive on a cold, snowy day with summer tires in the middle of winter. Personally I would prefer th RWD version but the lease deals are better on the AWD.
