I had the battery go flat the other day (likely my fault), so disconnected it to recharge overnight. When I reconnected the battery, the car was showing a fault message about the suspension.

Everything else appeared normal, but when driving the car it was like riding in a unladen 5 ton truck - it was stiff to the point of jarring your fillings loose. Changing drive modes made no difference, the ride was the same.

So I would guess if the computer doesn't have direction otherwise, it defaults to full firm mode on the shocks - and a truly firm setting it is! It appears that either KIA or aftermarket ECU tuners would have the capability to stiffen up the shock settings substantially - the firmness in the car's Sport mode isn't even close to what I experienced.

As for the error, I checked the fuses and they all appeared fine - including the one for the suspension. All it took was a simple 5 minute drive through the service bay at the dealer this morning - they hooked up a tablet to the OBDII port under the dash and reset the computer, and everything was back to normal. They did say they'd never seen this particular error before - but I wasn't surprised about that.

"This particular error", heh! They are legion, judging by the manual. And I am sure the manual doesn't mention remotely all of them. It is nice to know that those "it is recommended to take your car to an authorized Kia dealer" warnings throughout the manual might mostly, if not all, be handled as expeditiously as your issue was. A quick 'puter "reset". I can live with that.

there must be some way to progressively change the stiffness of the suspension. Any programmers out there? Maybe a knob that goes from 0-100 percent and you can turn it anywhere in between? I'd be in on it

Another area a tuner could manipulate, curious to know how much better it could make the car in sport mode.

Seems to me that the Kia diagnostic and scanner tool could adjust the stiffness of the suspension.
I would appreciate Mr. Hung tran, who's Kia technician could confirm if this action would be feasible.....The Nissan Consult 3 and the General Motors Tech 2 diagnostic&scanner tools are capable to modify almost any car's ECU parameters.....been there do that.....we only need a technician willing to explore and apply the posibilities.

@Hung tran is this something you might be able to confirm? :)

Interesting. Not surprised at all that some settings could be changed through the ECU, but I find it unlikely that the diagnostic tool from Kia can manipulate the values. May be the guys at Tork could shine some light on this, as they have the software that is able to read and modify the ECU parameters.

I remember when my reliable mechanic from the Nissan local dealer asked to me if I wanted to unlock & lock the doors and rolled down & up the front windows with my former 2016 Maxima SR remote control at the same time, he would be able to reprogram it that way; and turn off the sound and left the yellow flasher lights on or off when locked the car. He spent several saturdays after his workday, studying the Consult 3 in order to learn to used it better. Unfortunately, he got sick and left the dealer shop. So, I assume the Stinger ECU could be reprogrammed, not only the control module which the owners can modify. A technician is needed with the concern and curiosity to explore the possibilities of reprogramming......

It is programming for each setting, so it should be possible. Now, the question is how to do it by the lay person. The G70 most likely uses the same spring and shock setup, it’s not here yet so no info on the parts. If our Korean members can chime in on the suspension parts, we can find out if they use the same components but different programming. I was hoping by now the G70 would start arriving at US dealerships so we can feel the difference. The car rides great already but it would nice to make it corner better when pushed hard.

Dinan does exactly this with their suspension flash and it dramatically changes shock adjustment range and settles the car down quite a bit. Though it requires ecu flash, perhaps our friend at tork or racechip can help.

.....maybe, they can not help on this matter.....

this is interesting as Porsche aftermarket has re-tuned some of Porsche adaptive dampers (PASM) to get better performance. Wonder if something similar could be done and if we have aftermarket sophistication that Porsche aftermarket drives? DSC has some solutions. Might be worth shooting them an email to see if theyd consider tuning Stinger GT2 suspension.
