i gave my key to my son for a few minutes and he managed to disappear them . How much will this cost me because right now with only one key fob I don’t feel safe ....
key is either in the house or probably ended in the trash can at the worst, definitely not lost outside the house .
Any advice on getting a duplicate without a second mortgage is highly appreciated.

With an immobiliser, sounds like it's time to rip off the Band-Aid and call the dealer ...I don't expect you'll have to sell your son to pay for it. :p

Didn't the dealership give you two? here in Oz, most dealerships I know always give you two keys/fobs.Then there's always a back up one.

Don't give him pocket money for the next six months ( saving money that you would be giving to him and now will now have to buy another fob )

They are expensive, no way around it.

I guess I'll be the one to ask why on earth you would give your key to a child.

Perhaps he left something in the car ? my 10 yr old left a plush toy yesterday in my car but it was in the garage, nonetheless I accompanied him to retrieve toy as he has ADHD and ASD so wouldn't give my fob to him, it could end up anywhere :)

What ??? he does have active sound but I was referring to " Autism Spectrum Disorder " :D

I despise that forum feature as well...

As well as the stupid (and often incorrect) flags.. but I figured out how to disable those.

...coming to think of it, if you suspect a bag or receptacle may contain the missing fob, pass it by the locked car.
If the mirrors unfold, the fob is nearby...

I hear in the US they are several hundred US dollars to replace them but I don't have an exact number.

Good ideas (above) to find it.

Yes, you must buy a new FOB - not just an ebay/used one...
And yes, only the dealer can program it for you.

You may want to try this:
If you can start the car without the remaining fob in your pocket, the missing fob is still in the car - somewhere...
Good Luck!

Car will not lock if the fob is in the car.

The dealer quoted me $250 for a fob when they tried to sell me replacement insurance. From the price of the insurance, it was a "pre-pay" :)
