First impression LAP3 ECU, 2.5 with CPI
Upon the LAP3 box arriving I immediately began pulling out the old ECU along with it's bracket. It is a very simple job with a 10mm socket and some extensions. Once I had the LAP3 2.5 ECU installed I stepped inside the car in order to turn it on. I had to start it up about 4 times before it finally came to life. The smell of the built up fuel was horrible. I took it for a drive to my local E85 gas station in order to fill up with a E50 mix. I drove around for 20 mins or so in order to let the ECU do some learning and adaptations. When I 1st went WOT the car picked up immediately and with a surge in power, I was very impressed. I had a couple of hickups in terms of the correct settings for CPI in the JB4 but once I got those straitened out everything worked flawlessly.
-The shifts driving around normally are very smooth and now the throttle seems very linear in comfort.
-The extra timing makes the top end of the car at 6k RPM come alive.
-Torque seems to come on faster right at the beginning and stays smooth.
-In manual I even get some pops in comfort when downshifting.
-I ran some logs on the JB4 and AFR is buttery smooth, along with boost and timing.
-No problem at all with HPFP, stayed at 10-11 even while running E50 which the most I was able to do on jb4 was E45.
-On JB4 my most aggressive Map6 would only be useful if I wanted to really go fast but it wasn't practical for daily driving because of the hpfp crashes on E45.
-looking forward to trying out even higher ethanol mixes to see how far it'll go.
Previously I was on JB4 with CPI matches with a Lozic TCU. My best 60-130 jb4 run on map6 on E45 was a 9.27. Now with the LAP3 2.5 tune I was able to run a 60-130 in 8.40 seconds. This is with full interior and OEM wheels. I was never able to even brake into the 8s with just the JB4.
Now to review the extras. The disabled ISG (Idle Stop and Go) is very nice and allows me to forget about pressing that darn button every time I turn the car on. I chose to have the pops set up for sport mode only and with my current X-Force exhaust set up and OEM primary cats I think they sound good and aren't too loud. So far the logs look very clean and I am more than pleased with the regular drivability and performance that this tune provides.
For whoever wants the best ECU tune on the market for our platform look no further you've found it.
Wanted to thank David Chung for the quick communication and answering all my questions. Also big thanks to Charlie @Cashby31 for helping me set up the correct CPI settings in the JB4.
