hello world ive recently been thinking about swapping engines in my kia stinger and i wanted to hear some feedback about my ideas. So i have a gtline kia stinger 2021 and i am thinking about swapping the 2.5 Litre for a 1jz mainly because of the power i could potentially get out of that engine but i am wondering if there are things i should be doing to my car before i start swapping engines like should i be reinforcing certain things in the engine bay and also if you guys had the chance to swap the engines what would you go for and why ? i am doing as much research as possible,do you guys think that a swap like this is even possible? i know i might lose certain features like the engine start stop but i relly didnt care for it any way ,do guys think that im living in the clouds with this one?

I happen to own a mk 3 supra with the 7m. The complexity of this is huge, but it might not be impossible. If you have tons of money to burn and don't mind not ever getting it back I'd love to see you try . It would make far more sense to put the money into the existing engine, larger turbos, fuel system, e85 , custom tuning.

I just realized you have the 2.5l . Sorry I missed that . It makes 1000 times more sense to trade for the v6 than to swap

An engine swap in this case will make minimal sense. I agree that you should look into making as much of your existing engine as possible!

What an odd proposal. Good luck with that, if you are decided to go for it. Welcome to the forum.

I have also thought about this as a long term project with a 2J, but that would be a heck of a project. Mounting the engine and hard parts wouldn’t be too hard, but coming up with a transmission and such could be tough. Then there is the wiring nightmare. It would be easy to run the car on an AEM standalone or something similar with a digital gauge pod. The difficulty would be figuring out the remainder of the electronics. How would everything else work with parts of the OEM harness changed or removed?

My brother has an 89 BMW 325 coupe he put a 2JZ in. The power is absurd (800 wheel on e85) and the 2JZ would be such a fun engine in a stinger. His car was much easier to swap due to being over 30 years old. Doing a swap in a new vehicle is a whole other nightmare with all the electronics in vehicles.

Very, very bad idea. Trade it for 3.3.

I think it’s a great idea, it just needs a lot of time, money, and know how to make it all work correctly.

You can’t tell me a Stinger making 2JZ noises would be a bad thing.

If I had the money, I would totally 2J swap with an auto trans. Not sure what kind of trans, but keeping it auto would make it such a nice sleeper.

That would be awesome to see a stinger with an I6 engine like a 1jz, 2jz, or rb26 in it; even an infamous I4 like a 4G63 or SR20 would be really neat.

With that said , this is one of those if you have to ask, then the answer is no.
Swapping your 2.5L to the 3.3L would be a very large undertaking ..... swaping to another OEM's engine is a HUGE undertaking, even more so trying to fit a much deeper I6 engine into a bay designed for an I4/v6.

Also this goes much deeper then small things like auto start-stop not working: you would have to make modifications for your gas pedal to even work, completely remove your OEM gauge cluster, etc, etc, even the climate system and radio might not even work right with the engine/ecu removed from can-bus.

These kinds of engine swaps are done by very knowledgeable shops and the total bill would likely exceed the cost of a new GT2.

My assumptions; 1. You like the look of the car. 2. You like the interior of the car. 3. You want more POWER.

Buy something else; either a 3.3 or another car with similar looks. I mean, I'm not a "car guy" or an engine guy...but it sounds like a monster project. If this is your baby, why do a monster project with her? Buy a project car and spend, spend, spend. BUT of course...my opinion only.

Though, it would be cool to see the progress and hopefully the completed swap.

why not 2jz??
the 2jz is way to expensive and plus im not looking to gain crazy amounts of power , i am more in the realm of 600 to 1000 hp but reading the reponses on this thread i might be rethink my decision a bit

what mods should i look into upping the power on the 2.5 i know about the jb4,air intakes and a few other things

well actually thats the reason i joined this forum the was to hear you guys opinion on what i should be doing. So im going to explain the plan for what i had for the car cosmetically first,my first thing was to install a widebody kit on my car which i think looks pretty good, then i was planning on getting new brake kit and rotors preferbally drilled and a few other things but the engine swap was just a thought i had

I love the idea of crazy swaps and custom cars. The issue with the Stinger is that everything is so integrated. To pull this off you'd need an entire fab shop, plus knowledge of the hardware and software in the cabin. The complexity is astronomical. Plus, just for a faster Stinger? I think it'd be more fun to stuff a Lambda II in a 1978 Scirocco or something like that.

If someone has the skills, time and money (and more money) to pull it off than go for it.
No one was being a hatter, they just assessed from the OP's posts that they were very un-aware the extent of what would go into a swap like that.

Your build is certainly impressive/unique but not a true equivalent due to the 30+ year difference in technology and just how deeply connected/integrated everything is in cars these days.

This. Not trying to throw shade at the OP, but I think he just wants his car to be “cool” since he’s interested in a wide body kit and “drilled rotors.” To actually engine swap one of these cars would be a huge undertaking, with the majority of the time spent figuring out how to integrate all of the electronics to create a seamless driving experience. I would venture to guess labor would be at least 2-3 times the cost of an engine and any hard parts ( so if an engine and trans is $15k the cost to make it work is probably $30-45k). I would love to see someone actually swap one of these cars, but their either going to need some deep pockets or they’re extremely talented and skilled with fab work.

Something's not right BC the 2.5T (300HP) wasn't available until the 2022 MY, so there's that....Now, replacing the 2.0T (255 HP) available in 2021 makes sense.
