Kia Has No Plans to Kill the Stinger.

At some point these dealers will get the message. There are those selling without the BS markup.

It's dealers like that that keep people from trusting them and also perpetuating the idea that ALL car salesmen are scumbags.
Fortunately, the dealership I work with has never demanded any markup from me which is why they continue to get my business and my referrals. I paid $51562 plus $650 acquisition fee for my Scorpion, and added the wheel and tire replacement coverage for $500, and $399 for the pulse system listed at $999 for a total of $53111. As you see, they list the price at $55833 (with the pulse system and roadside kit) plus the 12k markup for a total of $67833.
I'm curious if anyone has been able to wrangle a better deal from any other dealer anywhere on a 2022. 20220324_210938.webpLet me know so I can bang my head against a brick wall!
If Kia brings back better incentives on the 2022 models when the 2023s hit maybe there would be a better deal to be had but I wouldn't likely find the ceramic Scorpion either.
One thing is for sure... I would walk away from an MSRP deal 99% of the time but, adding any markup on top of that and I would rather put my nuts in a vice on principle alone!

WTF? I'm confused, $12k markup? Are you saying they waived that? What's the Pulse markup?

Yes, the 12k markup was waived. The Pulse system flashes the brake lights several times when you first apply the brakes to help get the attention of the driver behind you. I suspect it's more of a CA thing and the dealer only sells cars with it activated. Cost me $399 as I indicated.
Here's the actual window sticker... the 12k markup isn't on that of course and the Pulse is dealer added.

I paid... $399 for the pulse system listed at $999

I guess I can see $399 to cover hardware and labor, but a Grand for a blinky light module would be absurd.

Agreed. I think it's worth about $10!

Is the blinky thing covered under warranty for the 5yr/60K? I'd be more concerned of repairs when that fails.

That and possibly butchering the wiring to install.

Frankly, the pulse thing sounds like another dealer ripoff. It probably costs them a few dollars, and by saying all cars get it they suck in unsuspecting buyers.
Last time I bought a new car they installed some theft deterrent tracker which they do on all their cars for like $400. It wasn’t on the sticker, but I questioned it in finance when I saw it in the breakdown. I told him I didn’t want it or no deal, so I got them to remove it.
Actually I would rather there be more enforcement of busted and non working lights than gimmicks. Too many cars in California that have no business even being on the road.

That's a good question. I never gave it a thought since it came with the car. Looking it up on Google it is not Kia equipment. Pulse is the company and it's offered in other places, not just CA and not just on Kia vehicles. It rapidly blinks only the 3rd brake light, 4 times, and won't do it again for 4 or 5 seconds so it's less obnoxious to the guy behind you in stop and go traffic. Claims to reduce rear end collisions which I would guess makes sense with all the texting and distractions going on these days. A flashing light is more likely to get your attention in your peripheral vision than a static light.

I'm well familiar with this. They offer such modules for motorcycles too. I assume since dealing is installing it, it is legal in CA. Not sure about other areas.

Frankly, these things are useless for the texter not paying attention. They're looking down, so you can have a whole christmas tree of lights they'll still never see.

In the grand scheme of things, only paying $399 for the module installed is pretty minor compared to ALOT of other things I have seen dealers try to pull- at least your actually getting something for you money. "Regional mark-ups" give you nothing but a higher monthly payment.

There isn't a choice at this dealership. Clearly it's a way to make a few extra bucks on each vehicle but you are right... at least you get something. The thing is you'll never know if it saved you from being rear ended.
When all is said and done I paid $3300 under the vehicle's sticker price. The unavoidable costs would have been tacked on regardless of the price I agreed to pay. Not fantastic but I wasn't going to do better if I wanted the Scorpion.

In the current car buying market, that is phenomenal. You did great. Maybe its easier on the west coast, but on the opposite side the best I've been able to pull is buying one at MSRP (outside of one hek of a road trip to Illinois). I suppose if you add in the 1K Kia cash incentive its technically 1K off MSRP, but that still doesnt come close to your deal.

It’s a shame the dealers can charge so much for something that costs so little and takes a few minutes to install. I looked it up when my dealer tried to hit me off for a phony $4K addendum. It’s actually illegal in my state and some dealers have been fined and ordered to pay back their customers. My county Consumer Affairs was very helpful.

Here’s the info I found on the brake Pulse…

Williams and Lake "1617889" 4.5 amps

PULSE® powered by Safety F1rst

•$59.00 cost – set pricing established by the manufacturer

•$10.00 parts for stocking the units

•$30.00 service for installing during PDI or if missed at any time in the future

•$99.00 total internal cost

•$100.00 to $300.00 dealer profit added

•$199.00 to $399.00 addendum created and placed in every new vehicle in stock

Someone sent me a bill for work done on their chevy $hitbox. Talk about getting taken for a ride. I looked up some of those parts. The loaded strut, $180/ea on summit.

Only thing reasonable on that list is the alignment and that's assuming they did a full 4 wheel alignment.

^^I wonder if this exceeds dealer pricing.......

I understand many people are not mechanically inclined so there's something to be said for developing relationships with tradesmen that do good work for a fair price on stuff you can't do on your own. Seems like waaay too many people don't know the difference between a crescent wrench and a hammer these days. Definitely don't ask for a Phillips head or a channel lock unless you want to see a blank stare.

I don’t know where you are from but where I am there isn’t a 2022 gt 2 on a lot within 1000 miles of me or even further. I’ve had no luck locating one that wasn’t sold already or even on a lot.
True. I’ve checked for a GT2 scorpion edition right now from Maine to florida ! NOTHING. I had my chance while I was in florida in February. I walked out of the dealership because I didn’t want to pay 10k over MSRP. ‍♂️
