I’m really keen to add a JB4 at some point down the track, don’t need crazy HP but no doubt as I get used to the car, a little extra pep would be nice.

My questions are about how to ensure the install is clean and able to be easily reversed so when the car goes in to the dealer, they’re none the wiser.

I understand the JB4 is essentially plug and play and can easily be removed without too much hassle, however can the car be left if that state without the JB4?

As an example, I would regap the stock plugs in addition to the JB4; 022-024” but is this spec ok without the JB4, or would this decreases gap cause issues on the stock ECU tune?

Also trying to understand fuels for the JB4, I see a lot of mention of E30. With those running tunes in Australia, do you just use 98 fuel and can you use others with other maps?

Apologies if this has been covered before. But I’ve read nearly every thread and couldn’t find these answers specifically.

Get aftermarket plugs. Stock ones are not very strong even when regapped. If you want simple power adding use map 1 or 2 depending on the octane you have available. You can leave the obd2 plug in the car and hide the obd2 side under the dash if an issue occurs. Under the hood it's a few plugs to remove the whole thing. Adding fuel wires adds a bit more but again it's all pretty easy to get out. Really depends on why your going in (oil change or warranty related)

Are the regapped plugs ok to run if the JB4 was taken out?

Cool, thanks. I actually found a few threads now on the subject too, been reading up including the N54 thread. Lots more reading to do before I jump in.

I just got my JB4 and plugs. I haven't installed it yet. My plan of action is to do the plugs first, make sure it runs fine with the stock setup, then put the JB4 in. I ordered the fuel adapter pigtails so I don't have to tap the fuels wires directly into the stock wiring.
I need to see what the best octane boost is, since the best pump gas I can get in Cali is 91, so I would be stuck with map1 unless I boost the octane.

That’s exactly the plan I’m looking to follow. We have 98 RON in Australia which is equal to 93 in the US, so I’m planning on map2.

We do have E85, but not readily available. So every now and then there’s the option for map3.

Not sure you both have the means, but using an octane booster like Boostane will allow you to move to map3 providing you have the correct mixture. A bit on the high side at $25/bottle but my addition and subtraction figures are this.

Wanting 100 octane = 16 oz roughly/16 gal = half a bottle.

Half bottle $12.50. 16 gal/12.50 = $1.28/gal.

93 octane at the pump = 2.75. 2.75+(1.28)= $4.03/gal.

I don't drive mine everyday so I can afford to use this at my desired 100 octane. Over the counter octane boosters represent decimal points. If they say it raises the octane level by 10 points, that equates to 1 octane rating. Your 93 octane would go to 94.

I see boostane premium for $20 a can on Amazon, I charge to my Amazon store card and get 5% rebate on everything so it’s like $19.
Since the best pump gas I can get is 91, I want to go to 93. They have an app to tell you exactly what to use.

Correct. That's where I got the 100 octane rating from half a bottle. Not terrible and hopefully will yield some noticeable increases. Won't be putting any in until spring so the waiting game is in full force.

Gotcha

One thing I like about the jb4 is that if I don’t want to spend the money for octane booster, like for a long trip, I can easily dial it down to map1 or even stock using the mobile connect.

Plugs are the more difficult part of the JB4 install but having said that, I didn’t have any problems changing mine after all the great tips found here in this forum. The great thing about the JB4 is it doesn’t reflash anything so once you unplug it there no trace.

I used Velcro strips to attach the control until to the fuse box and also used the pigtails from BMS. I recently had to go in for warranty service (replaced moldings) and it took 5 mins to remove it. As stated prior by someone I just left the OBD and tucked it under the dash.

So, when you used velcro strips, aren't those left on the fuse box? Maybe a tech who is into mods might know the trick and blow the whistle. Doesn't prove anything for sure of course.
I haven't looked closely, is the fuse box top removable? Maybe have a spare that you swap in and out with the JB4 attached to one. When you pull it, just swap in the unmodified cover.

Fuse box is removable. I bought another top so I can change mine when I go to the dealer.

Where did you get the extra from?? Link?
I’ve searched eBay seen only one that came up, scuffed up as hell.

I should have done that. I used the removable Velcro so I pulled them off, then tried to clean the spots where it was. I’ll be looking for a spare cover now.
