I’ve recently spent some money already to jack this car up, bought a KINCROME 2800kg jack and 2 tool pro jack stands. In hindsight I should have spent the outrageously expensive (here in Au) Race Ramps that will cost me $800 delivered.
All I want to do is to get access under the car to do oil changes, but of course with this fargin car, unlike any other I’ve owned, is that you have a very small foot print access to the jacking points because of the under-hanging trim. So you can’t effectively jack up the car and simultaneously place the jack stands without possibly doing damage to the trim.
Options are is I simply buy the Race ramps or what else can I safely use to hold this car up without using the jack stands.
I know I could jack the rear wheel up high enough to fit the jack stand under the from jacking point, but my brain doesn’t deal with that level of frame bending to do that.
To be honest, I actually dont like lifting one wheel only up on cars because of the stress it can put on a car frame. But I know logically it can handle it.
So how are people here using a trolley jack and jack stands to jack and hold up their car?

I've been a unsafe mechanic and have been only jacking 1 wheel at a time to do wheel change over, not using a jack stand for safety. I concur that there is not enough room to have a jack and jack stand in the same area without damaging the side skirt.

I do use a Canadian jack pad for the frame rail....hockey puck with a slot in it. ;)

I’ve got hockey puck size rubber to use, it works, but even using that anywhere on the trim still might cause issues.

Get behind this idea more; the thing would be folding itself in half going round a corner if the major structure of the vehicle couldn't put up with lifting one corner in the air.

I know, it’s all in my head :(

What I do, and I’m not saying it’s strictly safe, is put the car in the air with the jack and let the jack hold it while I work. BUT I do place jack stands underneath before getting under the car. I simply don’t load the full weight of the vehicle onto them (snug but not weight bearing). So, in theory, the pinch weld won’t suffer damage unless the jack fails. And if it does fail hopefully I don’t die.

How far to the left or right of the “official” jacking point can you move across and still be safe?

Back up on ramps then jack the front using a wood 10 inches piece of 2x6 beside the jack stand location to spread the jacking point, then jack it up. You will have room to put the jack stand on the right location. Thats what I do and it works well..

I use two low profile jacks because I’m lowered and most ramps won’t clear the bumper and give enough room to work. Lift each side gradually and evenly until you have enough room to work. Find a couple big blocks that fit snuggly under the wheels for added safety. No need for jack stands with two jacks and the wheels supported.

There’s a point on the subframe about 5-6 inches in from the pinch weld that I jack the car up from and then place the jack stand under the pinch weld. I’ll try to get a pic later

Thats why i use a good old wood block on my jack.20191119_231038.webp
