Is there a way to tell the month of production by the VIN?

Simple question. I’m looking to buy a Stinger within the next week or so and I found a new 2018 GT2 for sale. I’m trying to figure out if it’s an earlier 2018 or a later 2018 as I’d rather have a later 2018 as chances are better that some of the kinks were figured out already. I know the last six are the production numbers, but I haven’t found a site that actually gives the production month when you enter the VIN.

Last six are: 019949

Open the bonnet (hood) there should be a sticker with month & year in top left side.

Unfortunately don’t have access, just pulled the VIN off the website.

hmmm somethings not right here... I looked up my VIN from that site and mine says AWD when its RWD... idk how accurate that site is but my car is definitely RWD.

I do not know if that is correct. My VIN ends in 023838, and was built in Dec 2017.

On a side note you can look up your window sticker (works for any KIA, not just the Stinger, though does NOT show the build date):

Im gonna edit my edit. Lol

Vehicle Identifier Section
Digits 10 through 17 make up the Vehicle Identifier Section (VIS). The tenth digit indicates the year.

Forgive me, but I still do not get it. The tenth digit in my vin is a "J", as is the example you provided. So it is either 1988, or 2018 according to Carfax. Mine was built in Dec 2017 as shown on the sticker in the door jamb.

I would think the tenth digit is the Model Year, not the Build Year.
As I said, I do not get it. :(

Edit: Not sure I liked my full VIN viewable, so I cropped the pic to remove it...

Probably model year.

Ask dealer for an actual build sheet if you can’t look at the door plate on the car.

I internet shopped my stinger, I just asked them to snap a photo of the door jam and they did, easiest way to do it.
