Anybody else having this issue? Just noticed it yesterday as I was taking a trip to Lowes. The top “clear” started to flake away and then the silver under neath came off as well.

Trying to find the part # to replace it, but looks like it comes as an entire assembly. Guessing I may have to source one on ebay.

Holy moly! Never even heard of that happening before, much less seen it. Is it possible that you got some chemical reaction going because of contamination?

Yes, happened to me too last year...the Dealer / Service Manager refused to present it to KIA as a warranty item. I found a panel on ebay reasonably priced, took it to my PPF installer and had the (new) handle covered with with foil in the exact finish as the original as an extra precaution.
Then exchanged the old for the new which takes only minutes for these guys. That way I was not without the car for any time and the installer could take his time to find the vinyl and do the job. And I could avoid dealing with the "Service Manger". I wanted to save my fight for something bigger. Besides, I now have a complete spare panel for ....who knows?
I think it happened from the way I sit and brace my knee to the door. The vinyl will likely not wear as easily. I got the panel for MUCH less than the $300 or so a saw advertised on ebay later. If I had gone with the PPF on the damaged handle, the damage may have telegraphed through. You may want to check it out though. Good luck.

Yeah my guess it’s the oil in our skin breaking it down since I also sit with my knee there. I did see some cheap carbon fiber overlays on ebay. Thought about that, but since I don’t have any CF in the interior guessing that will look weird. Didn’t think about PPF. May have to give that a look at. Thanks

You guys wear shorts, am I right? I had a work mate in the machine shop whose skin was so acidic (might have been from him being a heavy chewer) that touching steel turned it blue and purple. Who knows what kind of effect a knee of his would have on the "skin" of a door handle like this.

I wear shorts late spring to early fall. After that it’s pants since I’m in IN. As I said it’s probably the oils in our skin causing that top coat to break down.

Well, now you can put a layer of PPF or wrap over the spot and be a happy camper for the life of the door. :D

Noticed a rub area on mine the other day. Definitely from my knee resting on it.

If you keep your left foot on the dead pedal your knee cannot rub the door.

Yeah I was about to say. That's a pretty bold statement to make. Not everyone is built the same.

I’ll just leave this right here.
I can get my knee to touch the door handle too, by not extending my leg fully and placing my heel on the floor. But I use the dead pedal and no part of my foot touches the floor.

The character of Saru from star trek discovery comes to mind.... Wonder how the ergonomics would work for him....

If you notice my foot is on the dead petal and my knee is on the door handle. This is how I roll 99% of the time I drive. Sooo yeah

Are you a giant too? I'm 6'3" and my knee is well below the door handle when my foot fully rests on the dead pedal.

6 ft. I must be all legs and you must be all torso.
That would be interesting to check out. My legs are quite long (I was called Legs as a teenager). Probably our seat positions are quite different. From your pic it looks like the bottom of your steering wheel is the same height as your knees or even slightly below your knees?
