Intercooler( heat exchanger) options

if you are not planning on drag racing, you probably don't need it. It is quite a bit heavier although I didn't weigh them. definitely notice the IAT's get lower quicker, especially doing individual pulls from a stop to high speeds, but not sure I would notice on a road course, or just for normal spirited driving.
Yeah not drag racing but would like to avoid heat soak during summer with spirited driving. Most likely just forego for now until summer is upon us and then revisit the intercoolers.

Lots of stuff on back order though. Something to keep in mind. I just found out that my IC is out of stock at a lot of places for at least 2 more months. Might need to buy your "summer" parts in early spring to have them on time.

No serious racing over here . I just want a reliable smooth powerful daily vehicle with a slight bump in performance.
Not sure what other mods you have planned, but your best bang for buck with reliable performance and maintaining everyday drivability will be a JB4 piggyback tune.

I found the BMS IC out of stock at the usual places so I ordered straight from BMS. It shipped in about 3 weeks, fresh off the assembly line

Yeah, it's a mixed bag out there. I tried going straight through Mishimoto for my IC. It was confirmed and my card charged. Then a day or two later I get an email from them that it's out of stock for at least 10 weeks. They immediately refunded my card and confirmed that I retain lifetime warranty if purchased elsewhere, so I'm currently hunting reputable spots. Probably buy right after this post, work is dead rn lol.

Fifteen pounds? Of difference?

Methinks their scale was set incorrectly.
Im considering an inter cooler as well. Searched the YouTube channel and just watched the mishimoto complete install. The guy actually weighed them before installation. The stock IC was 11lbs. mishimoto was 32lbs.

That’s a big difference sheesh

The stock intercooler has plastic end tanks where the aftermarket ones are aluminum. Along with the bigger cores accounts for the weight.

You will never know/perceive the weight difference, especially on a 4000 lb car.

A bigger, more efficient intercooler is always a win/win as the engine will always have a cooler charge vs stock, reducing the likelihood of detonation. There is really no downside to installing one.

Installed my BMS IC last fall. Hardest part was getting the bumper back on.

Similar to oem but better and almost the same weight . Might look into that one as well

To me, this is the intercooler to get:

Goto 'DESCRIPTION', and look at the temperature graph - the charge is barely above ambient!

With this installed, and at full throttle, your engine will think it is sitting on the beach at the ocean, ...under an umbrella, ...a drink in hand, and a very cool persistent breeze blowing in from the water...

That is what an intercooler is supposed to do - and in this case, bigger is certainly better, and not an item where to try and 'save weight' due to thermal mass considerations. Thermal mass is GOOD - just like it is with brake rotors.

Nah......install that!!!, and turn your stinger into time and space bending mechanism. img_0063.jpg

I heard that some people that installed that IC had increased turbo lag issues.

I'm still waiting on Mishimoto to fill a back order for me. ETA is 1st week of May for Mishimoto IC, but this is $300 cheaper and a 30 min drive away. No shipping . I'd have to wait an extra 2-4 weeks and I've never been all that patient. Anyone have any comparison data on the cooling between IMR and the Mishi offerings or opinions? Thanks

Certainly, the increased volume may cause some more lag. Whether that is a problem or not depends on the application.
For straight line drag race applications, probably no effect. For applications where significant changes in throttle are required, then it might come into play. Using sport mode, which keeps higher RPM's thus the turbo's spooled up more will help.

I’m considering the Mishimoto Intercooler but the website doesn’t list the ‘22 models as compliant. I contacted Mishimoto and they told me to ask around on forums to see if someone had installed in a ‘22. The response mentioned a a small modification need on the ‘21 model year cars and said that might still be the case for the ‘22 model year as well but they were unsure.

I have a bms fmic and had no increased lag that I noticed. I have noticed lower iat's and more consistent power in the heat.

I didn't weigh either one, but I'd say the bms one is at least 20lbs heavier than stock.

I don't see how you'd notice 20lbs or so more on this car when it weights about 4k already. For me, the benefits outweigh the little bit of weight.
