My opinion is doing so would be foolishly expensive.
Do yourself a favor by looking after-market. There are many options from as low as $8.34 (basic) to a few hundred dollars (advanced). Most simply plug into your OBDII and project onto your windshield.
It annoys me when people say it’s not worth it financially. When I first looked at swapping in a GT1/2 gauge cluster in a GT I saw similar response. Thousands of dollars. It wasn’t the case the hardest part was figuring it out since it hadn’t been done yet (the coding)
I’m interested in HUD as well and I have a GT. What I have found so far from pulling the gauge cluster is this.
Behind the gauge cluster is where the HUD unit sits I have a plastic piece that almost looks like a cut out for where the HUD would fit. I think it can be mounted there and you would then need to cut your dash to make the whole for it. Probably easier than swapping a complete GT2 dash.
Now from what I have seen there is a connector that plugs into it from the harness that runs behind the cluster. I felt around and did not find that on my GT.
My guess is you need the HUD and bracket as well as the harness that has the plug. You may also need to code the cluster to turn on HUD because on one of the diagrams I saw it pulls info from the cluster.
Seeing as how I don’t have the plug on my harness I might explore a seat swap first so I can get ventilated seats.
Also as an FYI I saw a HUD on eBay for under $300. I’d check the wiring harness first.
Do the GT and GT2 use the same windshield? I'd hate for you to go to all that trouble only to have it not display on the glass because it lacks the proper coating.
Sort of an old post, but the windshield probably doesn't matter very much. Back when GM first started doing HUD back in the late 1980s, the glass was all the same, but the "HUD windshields" were selected for the best optics/less ghosting. I have put HUD into 3 different cars with non-HUD glass, and at the worst, there is some ghosting. This is likely the same thing that would happen in a Stinger, faint ghosting especially at night. Other than that, it should work fine. It just comes down to the level of perfection you're looking for.
Of course, you could always just get a HUD windshield, too.
