How to lock the key in the car?

I wouldn't leave my key in the car ever. Or leave it running unattended. Here's some food for thought...

I know for a fact it is possible to lock the keys in the car - if you use the Kia connect app/UVO. I was delivering a vehicle to a customer in the early morning. I brought it home the night before to save time the next day. I parked it in the garage overnight and left the keys in the car. That night the owners got a notification of unlocked doors. They promptly locked the doors from 150miles away. In the morning both keys were locked safely in the cup holder. It took 2 hours to get in touch with the owners to have them unlock the doors.

I have used the aluminum foil technique on my wife’s Subaru for when I take it to the beach and just want to have the valet portion of the key and not risk getting the key fob wet/sandy.

I've thought of another way to lock the key fob in the car: take the battery out and leave the fob behind.

I believe the answer is to pull out the mechanical key from the fob. Put the fob inside the car. Then lock the car with the mechanical key. The right side of the door handle is a separate panel, that you can access with the mechanical key. You just stick it in the rectangle opening on underside of handle.

I didn’t think you could lock the car with the fob inside on the seat and you standing outside the car but my stinger did it. left the gym threw my workout bag on the passenger side seat with the fob in the workout bag, close the door to go around to the driver side but the car all of a sudden locked all the doors and mirrors turned in. luckily I was a 10 minute walk from my house to go get my other fob. it had never done that before, I have been using that same routine forever at the gym and then the other day it locked me out of the car. It’s a 2018 GT2 I bought new so the fob batteries are almost 4 years old but I don’t see how possible low voltage on the fob battery would lock all the doors with the fob sitting inside the car.

Thank you for bringing this up. I was just about to suggest using the valet key. Perhaps only giving them the valet key (if that's a viable option). I haven't explored all the options with the valet key. Is it even possible to start the car with just the valet (aka Emergency aka Mechanical) key? If so, just leave them with that and keep all the fobs.

You're lucky you have two fobs. I bought the car CPO and they only had one. I thought that was a little chintzy of them not cutting a second key and throwing a fob in for free, but I didn't even think about it until I was half-way home. I figured they would have put it (and the manuals) in the car like usual. Apparently, Kia dealerships aren't in the business of re-supplying things that didn't come with the car when it was a trade-in.

It can be done by using the Kia App. Was looking for my keys this morning and low and behold they were in the car on the passenger seat. Car was locked via the app from inside my house.
