How To Adjust Headlight Beam Height

The hole is meant for a special tool similar to torx but meant to engage the gears. IIRC I found one that worked when I needed to adjust my Sorento headlights.

It's really good to know all models are the same.
By any chance you have a link to that tool? Thanks

This screwdriver was posted by another forum member to adjust the headlights. Don't know if it's the same tool that eflyguy uses, but I got it and it worked very well for me.

Much appreciated. When you had adjusted yours did you lose headlight steering when turning the wheel left to right? I had found a post of another user stating after adjusting via this method their headlights did not turn.

No. After adjusting, the dynamic bending headlights feature worked just fine. When using a screwdriver to adjust, make sure to lightly seat the screwdriver into the ajustment screw, then apply slight pressure as you turn the driver so you dont strip the teeth of the ajustment screw. I believe it's made of plastic.

I just finished adjusting my headlights. Lol I thought I was stripping something since I applied force.. GG I hope the nut in the back still works if needed later down the road .it looks decent I guess. Haha I adjusted 2 inches higher at about 3 feet distance from the wall since that's all the room I had in my garage .

You can also pop air boxes out takes 2 minutes. There is a nut on back of light fixture. Much easier to adjust with socket driver. My opinion it was much easier then sticking screw driving down that tiny hole. Just another way to do. Good luck

I was thinking of doing that but wouldn't I have to remove the bar first?

Question - I have the impression my headlights are too high and it seems they are not illuminating much directly in front of the car. They illuminate way farther out than any car I've ever had, but I've also never had LED headlights. No one is flashing their lights at me, so I don't know.

But more annoying than anything is there is a dark half circle (bottom half of a circle) at the far end of the beam, especially on the driver's side. It's really distracting. Anyone know what this is?

It’s normal. Everyone has the same thing.

It is surmised that this "blank spot" is to spare oncoming traffic from getting "blasted" by your headlights.

Yours is the only case I've read that the OE setting on the headlights is too high. Interesting. I've brought this up on another thread and was told about this one (which I had seen months ago and forgotten :p). My headlights have been too low for fifteen months. High time I did something about it. Ya think!? o_O:rolleyes:

Although the half moons are still driving me nuts (I can't seem to "block" them out of my visual field), I have done a 180 on the distance factor. I think I thought they were too high because they are blinding in the rain :/ But since then I have been on some pitch dark roads and you're right, they don't project far enough out. I will take it to the dealer and wait to be told sorry mam, those are the factory settings" and they can't be adjusted".

Hopefully that will not be the case, but between this and no fog lights if it is I will probably eventually ditch the car. I have zero tolerance for not being able to see at night (my eyes are terrible as it is).

I sympathize. My night vision is marginal. The Stinger's illumination is great. I just finally have had enough of not seeing far enough out there on regular beams. I'm going to take what is learned on this thread and raise mine. If I find that I can't and/or botch it, then I'll head to the dealer. Don't take "it can't be done" for an answer. This thread proves it. Show it to them if necessary.

Right on. Hopefully they will adjust them and that will be the end of it. Sure, I could print this thread out and take it to them etc etc, but it's that tolerance problem again....I'd just as soon get rid of the problem (the car) than put up with that kind of bs. I've probably lost a lot of money in my life time because of that :/

Stress removal usually comes with a price that is worth paying. Money isn't worth a damn if you are putting up with annoyance and misery. If you can pay to make it go away, go for it. :)

That half circle set up is common so you don’t blind on coming traffic. That’s the way they set up led headlights. There are adjustments on stinger . I had to raise mine when I lowered car .

Some of these dealers just tell you there’s nothing they can do because they don’t want to get into problem. Because they don’t take time to learn how to fix the issues.
