I've been browsing around various articles in the car news mags and I see people criticizing the name Stinger. This is being discussed around the forum but I thought I'd make a topic so people can share their 2 cents.

Personally I think the name is great. I love it! But some people say it should have a more 'normal' name. I don't know what that means exactly. What should it be called? I saw something suggest 'Craig'. :p

Do you like the alphanumeric names that everybody uses these days?

What would you name this car by looking at it's design and performance capabilities?

Well, it is a lot better than Cadenza. Most people who are not musicians have no idea what a cadenza is. Some genius on another forum was asking why KIA named a car after a piece of furniture. LOL

Love the name. It's the start of something iconic for this brand. Book it. It also allows it to be internationally recognised, with or without the Kia badge. The naming really was a masterstroke, because once you know or hear it you won't soon forget it, whether you like it or not.

The alphanumeric names for me are bit forgettable, misleading, sometimes confusing (Exception is 911, as this my all time favorite dream car).

It's a great name. It's aggressive with personality. I drive a GS450h. That means nothing to most people. Stinger, as stated earlier, is unforgettable!

Let's not forget that there's a lot of jealousy going around the automotive industry right now. Lots of people are being unnecessarily critical of the Stinger for no other reason than to be unnecessarily critical. This car is pissing people off. :)

It seems like the current etiquette for commenting on "the internet" is designed to make us concerned about where mankind is heading. The old school "wall" of possibly getting punched in the face that helped maintain normal discourse is gone. "Obvious troll is obvious"

Plus, if Kia actually makes a car that is as good as its BMW equivalent and you still buy the BMW its more likely you paid extra just for the badge. And we know what assumptions (fair or unfair) people will make as a result.

As far as the name goes. Its named after a surface to air missile or a football injury. All cool things that appeal to my 6 year old self ;)

Stinger is a great name. Fresh and different!

Enjoyed seeing this topic bumped. At first I thought the name was more befitting a Dodge than a Kia, but it's grown on me. It's not stuffy like all those Germanic numbered models. It lets others know that those of us driving one have a playful side.

The only name I like better right now is Giulia, since it's the Italian form of my mother's name. The irony is that my mother could always be relied upon, and the Giulia . . . not so much.

Youse guys got it all wrong with the origin of the name. It comes from the Queensland marine STINGER also known as the sea wasp and one of the world's deadliest critters. Likewise the Kia Stinger is also deadly, you won't know what hit you and when you get smoked in your expensive badged auto you paid too much for you'll cry in pain. Also the Qld Stinger is silent - unfortunately the Kia version is too.

Here endeth the lesson.

You nailed this in one, this really defines the Stinger name & I couldn’t agree more, well put.

Love the name. And names in general. Mercedes and Lincoln in my mind are the worst. Lincoln makes zero sense.

Lincoln is going back to names... Their lineup consists of:

Lincoln Navigator
Lincoln Continental
Lincoln Nautilus (replaces the MKX)
Lincoln MKZ (may be going back to Zephyr but I think it'll get an all new name)
Lincoln MKT
Lincoln MKC

Slowly, but surely, they'll have all names again soon...

Alphanumeric names are boring and suck.
