Help, My Stinger randomly shuts down

Never got an answer but it hasn't done it since I took it in. They only thing I found was I had the recall done on the wiring harness on the driver side. I looked at it and it wasn't loose (dealer checked it as well) But they did miss the zip tie on that one. I tied it up just in case. But I don't have anything definitive and no shock its really hard to replicate.

Hey Guys, I've got a really weird issue I'm trying to fix. 2018 Stinger GT2 AWD. What will happen is I will sometimes be in traffic or at a light and the engine will shutoff as normal. Then occasionally all of the lights, controls anything electrical goes black and turns off. No buttons in the cabin work.

I usually pull out my key and hold it to the ignition and try hitting start---nothing
I hit buttons on the key fob---nothing
I flail about in the cabin hitting things--nothing
Finally I open and close the door. Then Finally I get a door ajar light. then other lights come on like the system is rebooting and I can start the car again and go on my way.

I've even come out to it in my driveway completely dead. I had to use the physical key to open the door and after trying buttons for a while it will come on again.

I just bought it used in May so its still under warrenty but I have no clue what could be happening and since I can't figure out a way to reproduce it the Techs are having a hard time as well.

My Kia dealer has it now and has run it through battery, alternator, etc checks and is not finding anything wrong.

Thought I'd reach out here to see if anyone else had heard or experienced anything similar before?

My 2018 awd limited...is doing the same exact thing. Almost 20k miles and this is my first issue, but sounds bad.......calling roadside and towing tomorrow

I just had this same general issue happen with my Stinger (2019). I came to the internet looking for similar situations.

The first time they replaced the body control module after the car stopped working at an intersection. The second time they replaced the wiring harness after the car turned off while moving. It's a scary problem which I hope that this repair fixes.

Could it be the battery is a bit low causing the issue for the key button?

One time I picked up my second key button by mistake and the car complained that the key button was not in the car. I then got my normal key button and it worked. I just put it down to a low battery in the second key button I have.

Mine has shut down at intersection tions 2 different times. Had it towed to dealership and couldn't find anything wrong. Manager found a recall and they replaced the fuse kit in the junction box. Praying it fixed the problem. Make sure they do diligent searches for recalls on the year and model of ur car. This is a safety hazard that must be fixed

Welcome, Sheri. I can't think of anything more disconcerting than having a car shut down while moving. This is exactly the sort of thing I feared, getting such a high tech, complex vehicle: it's like what Scotty said in the third Star Trek movie: "The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." And we live in the age of overthinking things, because "we" can.

My car has behaved herself for almost three years, and I am gratified; but I am still distrustful, too. Hopefully your issue is resolved and "no more adventures!"

Thank you for ur replies. I must clarify it has only happened when the vehicle is stopped never when it's in motion. The thought of that happening terrifies me. Hopefully it's fixed now. Other than that issue I'm totally in love with my car and have nothing but good to say about it. It's a 2019 base 26000 mi

Ah, thanks for repeating that: you did say "at intersections", so, I should have picked up that the car wasn't moving. Still, if it shuts down when sitting, what's to prevent it from doing so while moving? I know that at least one case of this has been shared on here before; it was a while ago. So, I probably had that in mind when reading your description.

No worries! I should have explained it better but it was late and I was tired and my brain wasn't working too well. Lol. I posted in the hopes of helping someone. I sure don't want anyone getting hurt. I was never notified of the recall. The dealership had to do a search. My car was there for 3 days and I was without a car. Very stressful.

Nope, it was used. And modified by the previous owner. I realized all that a few weeks after I bought it.

I hate that you went through that. Did you ever find out what was going on with your Stinger? I am also having similar issues with my 2020 GT2 stinger. If you have any information that will help please let me know.

I never did. It hasn't happened since I posted. The only thing I could even think of is the wiring loom near the drivers side. I think that was part of a recall on the 2018s. It was missing a tie down so I zip tied it to the mounting. No real clue if that was it or not.
