So, why is that when my Stinger is idling. There's no heat coming thru the heater? The heat comes on whenever I start driving, but this is useless for people who live through Canadian winters. Even starting the car using UVO doesn't work! Now the real kicker of this F'd situation. If I'm idling & put the car in neutral & pull the emergency brake the heater blows hot air like nobody's business! Can someone please tell me WTF is going on with this mess? I took it to a dealer ship & they said it's normal! WHAT?! NORMAL! HOW THE FREAK IS THIS NORMAL!

Stupid question here, but is Auto Start/Stop enabled? Heat and air turn off when Auto stop kicks on. That's all I got...

So the thermostat in your car is nice and modern... if it knows the air is not hot because the car is cold (aka the water through the radiator to make hot air for the vents is not warm) the auto feature will slow or stop airflow until its warm enough....

I could make this post make more sense but oh well

That's actually brilliant logic. Who wants cold air blowing on their face when they're trying to warm up. Lately my routine has been, start the car, flip the seat heater, steering wheel heater, and idle start/stop switches. The first two are omitted during the summer/warmer months.

In the back, I switched it to warm when no longer using ac. Sometime in april I'll switch it to off, and cool in june. So many things to keep track of........ The car should do this on its own.

I wait a bit whenever possible to warm up to at least 100° oil temps but just the same start method lol

I'm sure that your temp setting is being respected by the climate control system. If you're manually messing with things you can wind up with odd behavior; frustrating, even. I learned early to just leave the system on Auto and let it run the fan speed itself. As for hot/cold air issuing to your expectations, forget all you know or think you know: let the system do it. The owner's manual says that the optimized temperature control is default 73F: that is where I put mine for the whole time except the hotter months, which I set to 79F.

Mine doesn't show oil temp. Probably need to use an obd reader to get that. I figure, once the engine is running, another 10-20 amps draw won't make much difference to the alternator.

I'm in Alaska and this seems to be exactly what the car is doing. Heated steering wheel and seats are great. Longer remote start idle is important IME, as driving in sub 0F/-20C gets you into situations where the car "never" heats up...if you didn't warm it before driving. It'll eventually "get there", but often not in time for less than a 20 minute drive.

Can you clarify?

When the engine is idling, and there is "no heat" - is the engine warm (at operating temperature)
When you say "starting the car with UVO does work" - what doesn't work about it? Is there an error message?

much confusion!

I had the same problem no warm air would come out the vents even if it was up to operating temps. until I started driving I would get heat. Then I realized It was on floor vents only. lol Car AC.webp

And it's important to note, if anyone doesn't realize, that the "auto" function only warms your toes and it won't provide venting on your torso. It works well enough for times when your body temp already aligns with the car temp, but when it doesn't, it doesn't help to cool you down or warm you up nearly as much as turning the vents on.

i dont like how its default is to blow on my feet. whats that all about? i know where these shoes have been. dont wanna smell that.

Hot air rises; you get cold at your extremities first; the automatic climate system knows what it's about. Adapt to being warm other ways than insisting on blasting hot air in your face (you melting snowflakes, heh).

I've noticed the same thing - which is definitely a problem when you're stuck in traffic and watching your windshield ice up.
I've tried every setting I think of but no bueno, the air from the vents just seems to cool off the longer you sit.

The only thing I can think of is having the dealer bleed the coolant system, maybe there's air stuck in the heater core.

Especially in a very cold climate. Maybe a block heater could help this!!!

Weatherbug says its 16F outside. How did this happen!@# It's not even end of dec. Time to put the car on the battery tender. Granted, teens is not alaska temps, but still plenty cold.

There aren't block heater plug-ins everywhere in Anchorage. There are in Fairbanks. Cars get cold soaked pretty fast in these temps, but we aren't as cold as Fairbanks and the cars can be warmed pretty well. It's just that certain things will not get the car to warm up, going pretty fast at low RPM when it's really cold is one of those things that won't warm the car up very fast. While driving the car is usually the best way to warm it up, frost is sometimes so caked on and hard to remove that you have to get the car warmed up a bit and you also can't just go drive off at high speed like I'm talking about, so you may have to significantly change your route or just warm it up a bit with the autostart.
