Today, I drove north of Austin (100 miles north from where I live) to watch my twin boys play in a soccer tournament. My sons have been on this team for many years. I am also known as a car guy, who switches cars a lot. My wife is staying the night in the Austin area with our boys, so we took separate cars. But, I also had to go to the soccer tournament because it is my 21st wedding anniversary.

I had an INFINITI Q50 Red Sport 400 AWD in fire engine red for almost two years. A fast and fun ride.

Slightly over two weeks ago I traded the Q50 in for my GT1. With COVID, I don't see other parents as much.

When I arrived at the field, a rumor was circulating that I bought a Maserati. One of the parents saw me pull in and meet with my wife, and texted other parents that I am driving a Maserati. They wanted to see the inside of it. When I told them it is Kia, they said that is not a Kia and laughed. And, they were no longer interested in seeing it. I also told them it had a hatchback trunk. They said the car is not a hatchback.

I guess the Stinger is rare to non-car enthusiasts. Just wait until I rebadge the Stinger next week.

Got me to thinking: Has anyone else had his/her Stinger mistaken for another vehicle?

Well I would be offended if my Stinger was confused by a Masserati which is unreliable overpriced and its interior is full of Chryster cheapness all over. My stinger has not been confused with anything thankfully. I carry proudly the Kia badge so no room for confusion for another car. :p

If it was a Maserati, it wouldn't have made the 100 mile trip without breaking down.

Stinger pride!!!!!!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Get used to it, Maserati is the most common brand the Stinger is thought to be. I've heard it at least ten times, along with Jaguar, audi and even Tesla.

Not mistaken for anything but people always genuinely ask what it is, they’re always surprised when I say it’s a KIA. Also I do have KDM badging on, enjoy turning heads for as long as you own the car.

I have never been interested in maseratis or Jags. I had an audi, beautiful looks but not as fun to drive as expected. Tesla is a big, big surprise.

Now, Lambos!!!! I lust after them.

I have enjoyed the first two weeks very much. I love that sooooo few have a Stinger. It is a helluva car. I have owned too many cars for my own good.

Got mistaken for a Lexus once. On my current road trip a guy asked me if it was a new Altima

CKeeler, An Altima is so different looking. Kinda of surprising. Lexus and Stinger have no resemblance. IMO Interesting.

The guy who mistook my car for an Altima wasn’t even sure what it was until he saw the KIA emblems on the wheels. He came to me at a gas station and was asking me about it.

A buddy of mine said he was driving with a co-worker and they happened to come up behind me one day. His co-worker said checkout that Jaguar and my buddy said that's a KIA! His co-worker said no way I know what a Jag looks like. Apparently not haha

NS_Stinger, I have heard the Jaguar comparison the most. I am not a Jag fan, so I currently take offense to it. Jags are pricey, fragile vehicles with sensitive egos.

Jaguar, all the time.
Sometimes Maserati.

You're just focused on the wrong models, I've always had love for F-types, XKR coupes and classic e-types. Jaguar made just as many beautiful cars as they did trashy ones.

The old Jags are gorgeous. No argument there. And your pix was a good one to choose.

But, correctly or incorrectly, I always associate Jags with snooty people.

The references to Maserati make sense if those people were referencing the Ghibli; not the current one but the original Ghibli circa 1967 (somehow, doubt many were), which was the inspiration for the Stinger.

Albeit the taillight shape of the pre-FL Stinger borrows more from the GranTurismo.

The Stinger looks nothing like the Altima or any Lexus.

If people were to mistake the Stinger for anything on the road today, it should be the 4 Series GC, esp. if rebadged with the round KDM E badge.

That's because they are English.....maybe. No offence intended.
