GT2 slow acceleration in sport mode

Just started up again. Put into sport mode and it seemed fine. After 3 minutes my seat deflated (it hugs you in sport mode), I lost turbo power and the Check Engine Light came on. I pulled over and restarted and still on. Drives normal but no sport mode and now the seat won’t hug me in it.

Not sure of this is related but seems to be? Sounds like I need to bring it in :/

That sounds like something else. I would check the code first, then take it in.

For all those that are still stock and having the overboost limp mode on the 22+ models, not sure why they don't take it in to the dealer and complain to high heaven. It shouldn't do it, unless enough people complain to Kia, it won't get fixed.

If I were still stock, I would absolutely be doing this exact thing.
It would behoove anyone who is still stock to take it in if they are having the overboost condition set. Personally, I would appreciate it, even if I never utilized any solution offered.
We would all appreciate it, I think.

Ok, got an OBD2 reader. Code P0234: Turbocharger/supercharger overboost condition. Car still won’t kick into sport mode. Any advice? I have an appt Monday to drop it off.

So apparently it is overboost, then, it's just the most extreme case I have heard of. I wasn't aware that it wouldn't go into sport with that code set.
I would definitely keep a record of the code just in case it turns off for some reason. Kia needs to be acknowledging and dealing with these situations, because it is like this from the factory.

haha yes.. Although now i'm curious if the baffles open under moderate to heavy throttle in other modes... i know in my friends bmw i can see the valves opening when she accelerates a little harder than normal even in eco/standard mode, same with my coworkers charger with active exhaust.. anyone with a 22+ or an australian model can see if the valves open when not in sport mode and accelerating?

In my '22 GT1, the valves only open in Sport mode and stay open regardless of RPM. The only other time that I've heard them open is in SMART mode if it kicks into SMART-SPORT, but that only happens if you get on it pretty hard.

Definitely bring it to the dealer. Especially since this seems to be happening often with yours.

Typical overboost usually clears upon car restart, until it happens again. If a code is set, perhaps you have the clear the code before it will run normally (until it happens again). If it keeps doing it, definitely needs to go to the dealer.

Good advice, but I don't know how in the hell it would stop doing it. It certainly seems like a programming issue from the manufacturer.

when Kia went with the valve exhaust on the refresh this started to become rather common. maybe a combination of reset the ecu and clear the code will take care of it. It isn't anything broken or not working just a fluke in the factory modification of the exhaust system.

any wot will be exactly the same regardless of drive mode. so the valves will open on wot. in fact smart mode only goes to sport during wot in my experience and it drops sport mode almost immediately after you back off from wot.

Right, as far as we know the only thing that was changed was the exhaust, but something may have been changed with the factory tune. Those are the only things that would really make sense to be the culprit.

Have you heard them open at WOT in Comfort or Eco?

I have a 2.0L :D so I have heard nothing open. but if you have the valves and wot is the same in all drive modes you'll hear them open. if this isn't true then it means that Kia programed the valves for sport mode only, in other words the drive mode and not wot triggers them open. that is possible but would make no sense imho.

Got it. Kia DID program them to mode and not to throttle position. As soon as you switch the car to Sport mode, the valves open even at idle. I've tried this out while in top gear at a steady speed, and you can hear the car get louder with a deeper tone when switching with no change in RPM. I've also seen on cold mornings when I first start it, the valves are open until the idle stabilizes, starts to drop and the engine starts to come up to temp. I've heard the valves close and you can see the exhaust change from coming all four pipes to only coming out the inner two.

Forgot to mention that I've done a couple of WOT pulls in Comfort and haven't noticed any sort of change in the exhaust tone.

Code stayed for 4 days then of course cleared the day I was taking it to the dealer. Dealer found the code in memory but couldn't replicate the issue. They said they couldn't do anything and bring it back if it kicked on again.
