I have a '22 GT2 with 9k miles on it. I run in sport mode almost always and 99% of the time, this car is a rocket (all stock). However, twice over the past month, there seems to be no turbo/acceleration benefit in sport mode. It's still loud but the acceleration is no different than when it's in comfort mode. I can't seem to figure out what causes this and wanted to ask you all. No check engine lights or traction warnings. Is it possibly something with the turbo?

Switch your gauges to show if you're building boost when this is happening. Also does the problem seem to go away after you shut down the car and start it back up? It COULD be the system going into overboost protection and shutting down your turbos. Happens more on the 22+ years it seems, especially in colder weather and/or if you don't allow everything to reach full operating temps before you start having fun in sport mode. When this happens it won't always show a check engine light, especially if it only happens every now and then. If you have an OBD2 reader, the next time it happens if you plug it in to read the codes you might find a pending code that points toward overboost.
But this is just a guess based on my experience and reading other posts of others experience. Sounds familiar to what my 22 did last year before I knew better. There's also several threads on here regarding no boost, etc.

sport mode doesn't give you any more power than comfort mode, it just tightens up the steering effort, stiffens up the shocks (on top trims that have adjustable shocks) changes transmission logic (shift points/pressure) and changes the throttle mapping of the accelerator so you feel like it is more powerful.. under full throttle accel, i've seen many videos of people with dragys/etc that shows the same times with any of the modes..
Now if it's actually slower, i've seen many instances of (especially 22 models) going into overboost without any lights requiring a restart of the car to get back to normal but it doesn't sound like that's what is happening to you.

Yup, turn it off and back on again, and to wait for the car to really come up to operating temps before you really get on it, especially if it's cold outside. There's no real "how long do I wait" type answer. Just make sure your coolant and oil temp gauges reach regular temps for several minutes before really pushing the car hard.

That's wild because the difference between Sport and Comfort is night and day. There's just not much pickup in any mode except sport mode in my experience unless I floor it.

First not arguing your point. Im sure you are correct. I need to do more reading on it again but the new Mazda CX5's specs show more hp in sport in the specs ive read. Now that being said, its interesting to that they pocket that power for when you want to "go". Granted its not a massive jump in numbers but why wouldn't you just adjust transmission settings for better response in different modes? I know my wifes 2019 CX5 seems hella faster in sport, but it hangs out in the "power band" and response is quicker. Kinda hard to explain that to her Hahahaha! Mostly because she doesn't care to know.
Lot of useless words to ask your thoughts on it?

Yea, I saw a graph somewhere showing half throttle really is only like ~35%in comfort vs half throttle being more than ~70%in sport , they all ramp up to 100%full throttle but the ramp up is way delayed in every mode but sport.
So it definitely "is" less power in other modes just from the fact that the computer is dampening the input . Pedal commander overrides the standard mapping so you can get that peppier feel without having to mash the gas in other modes. I prefer a more controllable linear feel in the pedal and don't mind having to use all the pedal but it's a preference thing, lots of people love the fast response in sport or pedal commander settings.
Personally I setup my custom to be sport everything except the throttle since in most cases in the mountain Twisties I like having more adjustment in the accelerator to better control power out of corners

haha yes.. Although now i'm curious if the baffles open under moderate to heavy throttle in other modes... i know in my friends bmw i can see the valves opening when she accelerates a little harder than normal even in eco/standard mode, same with my coworkers charger with active exhaust.. anyone with a 22+ or an australian model can see if the valves open when not in sport mode and accelerating?
Sounds like the "overboost protection" condition that was mentioned. It is particularly obnoxious. I ended up getting a tuned ECU because it was so bad, even the JB4 with EWG wires and adjusting the settings appropriately couldn't seem to totally resolve it.
Apparently, the '22 and '23 model years are more susceptible to it, purportedly even doing it while totally stock.

Lozic & Lap3 both offer great products, that said, I have only used Lozic. You fill out an order form and send money via paypal for the Lozic tune, Lap3 just has a website you use to order it.
Lozic is less expensive and offers a great product, but there is a slight language barrier and timezone difference since he is in SK.
Lap3 may offer a marginally better tune, they are more local and are natural english speakers as far as I can tell, but they are more expensive.
You can't really go wrong with either choice.
(There are other tuning options, but I trust the two aforementioned more than anyone else I have heard of, probably)
I would have to agree with AdrianG. Seems to happen most often with WOT, although I think the second time it happened to me last year it wasn't WOT but I can't be completely sure as I don't know exactly when it tripped the overboost, and it's been a year since it happened. So far it has only happened while it was very cold out. Can't recall whether or not the car was at full operating temp.
Mine was so bad it would happen even at proper operating temps, warm/hot weather with only intakes. That said, it was pretty unpredictable when it would actually set the condition in the ECU.
