Running the car stock on PS4S has been more than enough, but ever since I added in the Borla exhaust and Typhoon intakes....I have basically no grip if I get on it in Sport mode anymore. I live in Houston, so I'm not TOO worried about winter tires as it's only below 50 like 4 days a year here. I used to hook pretty good on launch control but now I just spin the tires and slide to the left of right until I'm in 3rd gear when I finally get grip. Even punching at highway speeds to go around the Sunday drivers who enjoy doing 45 in a 70, I slip like crazy until it finally grabs. It gets sketchy and I have to end up easing off sometimes if it doesn't hook soon enough.

Was looking at possibly throwing R888 on the rears, but honestly not sure what would be better for me right now. The car is getting spark plugs and tune some time this month too, so it's going to just make even more power...and this is my daily, so I'd like some grip when I feel like having fun. Or...should I just go for wider PS4S? Also, how wide should I be going if I'm going to be in the low-mid 400s with horsepower? I need to find wheels too because I feel like 255 just isn't wide enough...

2020 GT1 RWD running what the dealer had on - 255/35ZR19 in the rear, 235/35ZR19 in the front.

Pilot Sport Cup if you want stay michelin
You think 255 in the rear is sufficient? I don't know much about this kind of stuff....but I am starting to feel like they just aren't wide enough to keep a good grip on the roads here.

I'm no expert in tires... but probably better to go wider than softer if you are looking for straight line traction

Stock is PS4. You could go PS4S or Cup2

The PS4S tires are supposed to be better than the stock PS4 tires. R888 or Cup2 tires would be better at the track but they won’t be anywhere near as drivable on the street.

If you really want better traction then you should trade it for an AWD Stinger. The RWD Stingers just aren’t the best option for launching. You can definitely improve their traction significantly but switching to AWD is just so much easier.

I could've sworn I had PS4S.....will have to check in the morning - either way...255 - is it really wide enough? Yeah I'm not tracking or drag stripping the car...just a daily that I enjoy having fun with.......but want more traction lol.

Damn could've sworn I had PS4S on mine....gonna have to look in the morning. I don't doubt me being wrong lol

I have PS4S on mine with a decent mod list running Map 2. I have all the traction I need right now. Granted, I am still in the 500-1,000 mile range on the new tires. The 4s are so sticky & the ride quality has been fine so far.

225/40ZR-19
255/35ZR-19

Upgrade to PS4S and 245/285 combo and it should be good. Also since you are RWD, learn not to be always the pedal to the floor and control your throtle based on the traction you have.

This! Not bashing OP at all but it boggles my mind how many people cannot drive because they don't know how to let off. A 285 will be plenty for you. Also don't go AWD, you don't have snow to worry about and RWD is faster.

255 definitely is not wide enough for the super early torque on the stinger. My 370z was running 285s and I could still get them to spin with way less torque.

285s will hold you on the stock tune. Tuned, there's braces and bushings you can look into that will help. Springs/coils can, as well.

Thanks everyone and sorry for the noob questions - it's been about 10 years since I had a car I actually gave a shit about and wanted to sink money into (IS300 and Mazdaspeed Protege way back when.....), so I'm a bit rusty on what I remember/know at this point.

Sounds like 285s in there rear are the starting point, so now off to look for rims to fit lol.

(Also y'all were right, I'm dumb - they are only PS4, not PS4S)

Wider isnt always better. Try stickier without going wider

Edit: just realized you are going to tune. Yup, go wider.

my 370z had 305 on the rear and still spun in the first 3 gears lol NA power!

I will offer you different kind of advice that you may not want to hear. If you've upped the power on your car, your next best "modification" is to get to a good driving school and learn how to control that baby!

going wider will likely improve lateral grip, but will definitely reduce the front to back contact patch length. your car weighs what it weighs. it can only push down on the rear tires based on that weight. best thing you can do is get stickier tires, although going with a sport cup 2 may only help when it's really warm out, or you can heat them up. plus they will wear out really quick. modulating the throttle is the best thing you can do aside from going to an all wheel drive car. interested to see if going to 275's or 285's will help with forward traction at all. to sum it up:
Taller Tire = more straightline traction
Wider tire = more traction for the curves

Taller = reduces gearing = reduces acceleration. Wider increases contact patch, has nothing to do with the cars weight or how much it’s pushing down on the tires. Wider tires certainly help, which is why drag racers aren’t running around on skinny tall tires
