hi, I have been reading articles and looking at youtube in relation to needing a spray to clean the back of valves every 16,000 k.
my question is this, if it is so that the GDI does NOT clean the back side of the intake valves.
why did not the engineers recommend in the service Manual that this “ spray” be used.

I don't think there is any (useful) spray for that.
The solution is to open the intake and manually clean the valves. Best way is through walnut blasting.

However, after almost 100k miles my valves looked pretty decent (on the 2.0) so I think the key is also in the type of oil and gasoline you use and the way you use the car. If you do a lot of city driving then you need to maybe clean them once every 60k-80k miles or so. Mine could have probably gotten to 150k miles without cleaning.

Install Methanol injection but use a small nozzle like 4gph. Every month or so turn it on and get a few WOT pulls. (we all do that anyway, lol). You will never have to worry about your valves, ever.
