First time paint correction/wax

Or do you think it's acceptable to spout garbage?
Mellow out. Not everybody has your 99% requirement: Do I Really Need to Wax My Car or Is It a Waste of Time? | Torque News If we were to go by nobody else, we both get to "win" this one. Hah. :P

The deal here is to watch carefully and then get a paint correction and ceramic coating when the factory clear coat looks like it's finally getting distressed. I originally anticipated that this would be necessary every year or so. But so far I've not seen a need for that. Weekly ONR with distilled water (in the middle of winter, half and half with hot soft water) is keeping things clean and smooth. But at some point I am going to go to the local "auto spa" and get the full paint correction and ceramic coating to restore the clear coat.

Let me know when you guys are done making out so we can get back to it

You know what they say, if you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

When I get ceramic I'll chime in; hopefully it won't be for a while yet. And microfiber is a good place to save money: don't go for the trendy ones. Just go down to O'Reilly's and get the Viking drying towels and clean towels if you must. I clean with 100% cotton terry cloth, white, so that they instantly show dirt: keep flipping them to a new surface (these are 14x16" if I recall correctly, could be 18", but about that size); dry with microfiber. I like the Viking because they are two-sided; one for glass, the other for paint/PPF/not glass; I use them on my wheels too; wash them every time you use them. See, I can stay close to on topic. :D

If you plan to keep the car for 10+ years like i do, only makes sense to keep the paint nice and protected . Especially in harsh Canadian climates.

So after some more reading I have figured out NXT 2.0 is more a sealant after a paint correction, and I will use Collinite as the final layer of wax. I'm fine re applying every 3 or 4 months, I'll look i to a ceramic down the line maybe next year.
Meguiars NXT is a beast. The gloss it produces is unbeatable. Easily putting ceramics to shame.

I will be using the NXT as my sealant after the paint correction. I bought Fusso Soft99 as my top layer wax, very durable from what I've read.

I was supposed to do it over the long weekend but my pads and compounds got stuck at customs twice over a $3 discrepancy, so I'll be waiting another month probably.

You should order from carzilla.ca. Tons of products and coming from Canada. Check them out!

Be ultra careful with the Soft 99 Fusso coat.
I tried the dark version, and no matter how little of the product was applied, it would always leave a smeared and streaky finish.
The water beading was amazing though.

I did, ordered about half of my stuff from there and it was here in less than a week, really impressed. The only thing they didn't have were the compounds and pads I ordered from Oberk.

I opened it up to look at it and noticed how, I guess chalky and hard it was. I was going to go with Collinite but I wanted the durability. If it is too hard to apply I'll buy the Collinite and leave the NXT as the final layer, it lasts a few weeks I would think.

I don't think I've seen someone get so butthurt because they take care of their car differently.

Took me almost 6 hours the do the paint correction, about 2 hours for the wash and clay, and about half an hour to apply the wax. I didn't have time to apply the Fusso soft99, it was too dark and the lighting was very poor. I'll see if the NXT Tech wax 2.0 last's even a month and reapply both.

The pictures are just post cut/polish color really pops now especially after applying the wax.

Couple things I learned...

1. MOAR TOWELS, I had one drying towel and 4 wiping, I got away with it but having double that would have helped.
2. The speed on the polisher; I had some pretty stubborn scratches I couldn't remove and I didn't try uping the speed until later. Bumping the speed up just one helped get rid of some of the deep stuff. Just need to be careful to keep your movement slow and steady for the badly hit areas.
3. Lighting, my lighting was awful and I'm sure I missed a lot of swirls I just couldn't catch. I had a flashlight that helped me catch a lot of stuff I missed but I bet there are still some minor swirls in weird spots.
4. Get a 3mm or smaller backing plate and pads if you can, our car has so many weird spots/angles to hit and the 5mm cutting pad I used just wasnt flexible enough to go over small angles and such. The polish pad was fine since it was spongey foam and could form around a lot of different shapes.

It was very time consuming but really happy with how it turned out. I am too tired to post a full body shot, I'll get one later.

Looks great - the hardest part is done! proper washing technique and some good quality microfiber cloths, and it should stay that way for a long time.

Looks good and say no to courtesy car wash from the dealership.

I am on topic... I told you why its important and your reply comment was the "That's what modern clear coat is for" dismissing the information... sure regular washing is a very important step, that's not even the subject of discussion, but you jumped in with a typical "MerlintheMad" post of "waxing isn't necessary if you wash regularly" if you are going to post on a topic how about adding some value to the discussion for a change instead of useless spam? Or just don't post anything and maybe you will learn something.
Snarky? Yup!, but if you are going to offer up your "expert" advice on modern clear coats and car detailing to argue with others you had better have some tiny bit knowledge to back it up, don't you think? Or do you think it's acceptable to spout garbage?
So answer the question... where did you gather that information? "I have a friend who..." is hardly an expert source. So please post up some links, I would love to be educated by new information. If you can find a single industry expert that says that waxing or paint protection is not required I will gladly eat my words and apologize. Otherwise perhaps you should consider my advice?

I'm done with my rant
Ahh, the age-old battle of North vs South. Canada vs America. We see it all the time. I love this forum. haha

I did ceramic today and finished off with this stuff. Worked really well !

Looking forward to seeing how long it lasts.
I did my first coat about 6 months ago, then my second recently. I wasn't seeing any signs it was completely washed away/gone, but living where I am it's doubtful rainfall alone would strip it away and I'm a once /month average car washer.

I'm pleased with the ease of application and from what I can tell, durability. Cost is the real win for this solution [turtle wax hybrid ceramic spray], as I still have a lot left in the bottle and it was cheap.
