I've never left the key fob in the car accidentally because it never comes out of my pocket

I always put a car in park, and I always put the park brake on, living on hills will make you do that as the parking pawl in an automatic transmission is not very strong and should never be used to hold the weight of any car, it's a good way to damage the transmission, that's what a parking brake is for.
When
@ShannonC asked, I actually went outside and tried exactly what I said, if you stop the engine while in Drive or Reverse, (must have foot on brake otherwise the car would be rolling) the car does not go into Park but it does start ringing alarms and says on the dash "Press Engine Stop/Start and engage Park".
If the car is in Neutral and you stop the engine, then it engages Park, but leaves lights and accessories on even after opening the door.
If I put the car in Park and stop the engine the accessories stay on until I open the door and everything goes off except for courtesy lighting. I close the door, but 1 in 5 times the door wont lock from the key fob or the outside door button, a bell rings producing the same sound as if the door is ajar, or if the key fob is in the car, (read both of these in the manual and tested them so I knew what the alarms sounded like) but the door is closed and the only fix appears to be to open and close the door again. Then the door locks.
I don't know I have to go to the dealer on Saturday looking for another car for the wife, I'll ask them then.
Thanks anyway fellas.
