Does this car not need a rear wiper?

Can those from areas with dirty winter roads comment on how dirty the rear window gets? On most hatchbacks or wagons, it takes little time for the rear window to become unusable. In Japan, even many sedans come with rear wipers if the rear is shaped similarly to a hatchback.

you can block your location .................. but consider your question , there is a serious heater in that window , we've had 2 days of snow here , 35 cm in 15 hrs and the rear windows is fine , not many Coupe style autos use them anymore ...................do you have a Stinger ??

This is a very good question. I was wondering about the same thing before but didn't really put so much thought until you asked.

For me, the rear visibility isn't that great to start with, so somehow the lack of rear wiper wouldn't make much of a difference. Plus, I think the wiper may ruin the looks.

I did feel the need to put a water-repellent coating on the rear window, actually in coating all external glass. This indeed helped a lot with rain, the sloping roofline helps with that.

As for dirt, there's a solution. It's called car wash.

For reference, I could still see out that nasty rear window.

Melting fresh fallen snow is not the issue. It's driving on salt covered roads at highway speeds--the kind that turn a car white and require copious amounts of washer fluid just so you can see where you are going. Rear windows (and cameras) become unusable very quickly. This is not an issue in Vancouver...

I am glad the Stinger is the first hatchback car with a severely sloped rear window that somehow doesn't attract all the road spray. And I am not being sarcastic--I had a Subaru SVX with odd aerodynamics engineering (that had a rear wiper on a sedan body) that rarely required the front wipers to be used. The water dispersed by itself due to the shape and rake of the windscreen. Hopefully Kia paid attention to the air flow at the rear of the car and it doesn't suck all the road spray onto the rear of the car.

I wish they'd done this colour in the UK, it's beautiful with the white seats, Maserati style.

I know the issue you're speaking of. It was awful on a vehicle with a nearly flat, vertical back window/hatch. I've not noticed it at all in my (comparatively) little experience with the Stinger, so far.

I initially wondered same re: rear wiper, but so far so good. This despite, the nasty winters here with salt spray, etc.

Snow, sand, salt, dirt, etc... it’s all been on my back window and I haven’t had any issues looking out of it. Been hard to wash it lately with all this bad weather, but yea...can always wash it if you’re having an issue.

My Suburban on the other hand definitely gets its use out of the rear wiper. It collects everything under the sun and just sits there.

Coming from a Ford Focus hatchback to the Stinger... night and day difference in terms of rear window getting dirty... Stinger definitely does NOT need a wiper!

I was surprised about this too, but after a long road trip that included a couple hundred miles on snowy and sanded roads the rear window never got too dirty or wet.

Now the wheel vents in the other hand - when I got home I found about 2" of sand packed in them!

I agree that the visibility out the rear window isn't the greatest, but rainwater seems to clear itself fairly well as long as you are travelling at a decent speed. I don't see a great need for a rear wiper, and it would have to be huge to clear that much glass.

Besides, when you are the fastest car on the road, you really don't have to see what's behind you. Unless it's flashing red lights.
