3.3TT Do I need to keep 5 OEM lug nuts in the trunk for the spare donut if I'm using acorn seat rims?

Does the spare donut need mag seat lugs, or will acorn lugs work too? I've thrown 5 OEM mag lugs into the trunk in the mean time.

I assume the spare is compatible with both mag style and acorn/taper.

Do you have an image of your spare?

It's the same rim but with a kumho tire. Didn't think to check when I had it out.

Speaking of OEM Lug Nuts I have a Question. Had 2 different types, one set for the original 2019 Special Edition (Canadian), another set for a set of Fast "Switch" for Winter. I can't for the life of me remember which was which. The first few wheel change overs I went to dealer, they seem to use the same ones all the time and they put all lug nuts in a pouch. The 2 sets are Acorn/Tampered Cone Seat & Mag Seat with Washer.
The question is, now when the changer over is done is there a proper lug nut for the specific wheel?

Thanks

OEMs are silver mags with a washer. The acorns are for your Fast rims. Same setup here but my acorns are black and I've done every switchover myself.

Not sure but I do just incase

After reading this thread, I decided to keep five OEM lug nuts in my hatch in case I need to put the donut on. I have had to use the donut, and the aftermarket lug nuts that go with my summer wheels. I went very slowly the five miles home, in case they weren't compatible with the donut, actually I know they aren't because when I got my summer wheels the wheel shop said that they could not use the OEM acorn lugnuts. So, I was quite nervous on the short drive home and have kept the OEM lugnuts on hand ever since. Used them once since I started doing that and had to switch to the donut.

The other important thing to have in the car is the key to remove the non-OEM lug nuts. The separate wheels I got from tirerack for my snow tires use a different size lug nut.

Thanks for the info.
If they installed the Acorns on my OEM rims, will that result in damage to them?
I just checked the pouch and discovered I have 19 of the type with the M12 - 1.50?T on them and 1 that is the smaller top circle (On Right In Picture)

Thanks Again

Can you attach a pic of the Lug Nuts.
....I have a dealer that switch up mine. I now have 19 with M12 1.50/T on the side and 1 with a slightly smaller diameter circle on top.

I attached pics...

Thanks

If you are curious about the "/T" on the M12x1.5. It is likely a Chinese notation for thread pitch - meaning 1.50mm per thread.

the "/T" is completely unnecessary.

Ok Thanks on "T" info. My maim concern was that the dealer has put my set of Acorn style lugnuts from the Fast Switch Winter wheels on my OEM Summer wheels, which I beleive are supposed to have the Silver Mags with Washers. And any potential damage to the wheels as a result.
There explanation is the tech takes the lugnuts off and puts them on the hoist so they don't get misplaced. The issue is I provide a pouch with each set of wheels (Summer/Winter) that contain the different lugnuts.

Same here. If you've been doing this for years, and this time they used the lug nuts from the other set, then what is the issue? Swap them back to what you've been doing for years. If you see any wheel damage, that is an issue by itself.

My OEM Kia Wheels (2018) - are definitely acorn/taper style. I know Kia switched to mag style at some point, for some reason.

Those mag seat with washer style would "work" on my 2018 taper style wheels, but the "shank" would not fit inside the taper.

I would say, they would work in an emergency, but they are not correct for my wheels.

If your wheels are designed to work with mag seat style lug nuts, they would not work correctly with 60° tapered lug nuts.

I have seen mag style lugs used on taper style wheels (specifically steel wheels). It technically "works" but looks kinda stupid. - not my pictures .

Thank you for your feedback. Back in my original post, some how they ended up putting a different mag style nut in with my 19 OEM. They refuse to acknowledge this. The other thing was that I wanted some verification on whether the acorn nuts will cause any type of damage to the OEM wheels.

Thanks a lot D.J.....

I may have missed this in my reading, but you definitely need to keep the correct socket and a breaker bar for whatever aftermarket lugs one may be using too. Just because you have prepared and have stock lugs for the spare doesn't mean that you will be able to get off the aftermarket ones with the oem tools in trunk.

Yeah the OEM wrench is useless for anything other than the stock lugs on the stock rim.
If you're using aftermarket wheels you have to carry the tools to remove them by the side of the road. Can't use the spare if you can't remove the flat wheel.
I bought a "Telescoping Lug Wrench" to throw in the trunk, along with the spline socket AND the 5 OEM mag lugs.
