Hi All

I will be receiving my JB4 today and installing it in the next couple of weeks after I get my plugs replaced. My question is to those with a tune. Do you always have a higher map selected even during normal daily driving or do you keep map 0 selected until you want to race or have fun? Is it safe to run map 1 or map 2 all the time or better to keep map 0 until you really need the extra power?

One last thing... I think I saw it posted somewhere but I can't fine it now. I have access to 93 octane but need to go out of my way to get it. I have a WAWA that I go to all the time but they only offer 92. Any recommendations here? Will the 92 suffice or should I go out of the way for 93? I plan on running map 1 and map 2 nothing higher (I say that now!).

Thanks,
Ian

I have been on Map 2 since purchase and I am a city driver most of the time. No issues here, but I do use 93 octane only.

I keep mine on zero for my commute. No issues. Plugs and 93. I play around in map1 and map2, also.

I've been daily driving map 2 for almost 9k miles and over 6 months without issue.

I keep mine on map 2. Haven’t ventured too far from there.

Thanks for the reply's. Sounds like I can plan on setting it and forgetting it depending on the map I want to run.

I drive with Map 2 all day also.. i'm only on 91 but with the fuel wires. still fun even in comfort mode.

I just received the JB4 and the Fuel wires. I put the fuel wires into the harness but will be waiting to do the install on the car until after I replace the plugs. By mistake I ordered the data cable instead of the mobile connect. I just ordered the mobile connect and it's already shipped so hopefully I'll see it early next week.

Ive been playing around with the maps...im stock with K&N drop in filters....it is a daily driver .but since im a hermit along with the spouse we only have 600 miles on her....just started using map3....oh heck yes.....driving normal you can just leave it in comfort mode....or not....lol....the great thing is about the JB4 is that its docile when you drive it docile....so im thinking ill just keep it on map3......although map 2 is great too.....damn so many choices....long story short....keep it where you want it.....the map in my opinion doesnt drive all out ( balls to the wall ) in any map if you are driving normal in traffic...if thats the question you are asking....now that i think about it...lol......map 2 would be a great daily driver too.....Wash

When I purchased my car a little over 2 weeks ago it had 25 miles on it. I just turned over 1200 so I spend a good amount of time in the car commuting. I just wanted to make sure that running with the tune all day every day wouldn't be an issue. Sounds like I'll be good just leaving it on.

Just ordered the pedal tuner as well. That should make things more interesting and fun!

Is there anyway to use the jb4 without running the cable through the firewall? Or is this the only way?

From what I have read one of the major advantages to the JB4 is that it has the ability to use the ODBII to gain access to information about the car. I think the quote below from their site explains it. As far as I know there is no wireless interface that the JB4 can use to get this information so to connect it you would need to run the cable.

I think I read somewhere that if you don't use the ODBII connection you would be limited to MAP 1? I will try and find the discussion where I saw that so don't quote me on that yet.

"Unlike other tuning systems the JB4 includes a fully programmable CANbus system, upgradable firmware, and data logging capability. CANbus allows the JB4 to take in to account pedal input, throttle position, gear, engine speed, air/fuel ratio, fuel trims, ignition advance, knock, and many other factors and incorporate those in to the performance mapping. It can also read/delete fault codes, incorporate unique safety features such as keeping boost pressure low until oil and water is up to temperature to provide proper engine and turbo lucubration, and drop to a low boost map if the engine starts to over heat, run lean, excessively knock, or over
boost."

I use my laptop to make changes to my JB4. It isn't as quick as those using Bluetooth but it eliminates the need to run the plugs through the firewall.

I simply pop the hood, plug the JB4s USB cable to my computer, and make firmware/map/etc changes. Then just disconnect it and close the hood.

It isn't limited to a certain map, either.

Do you have the JB4 hooked up to the OBD2? Terry said it will work without it, but it uses the data to improve the tune.

How does using the hard wire data cable instead of the bluetooth adapter eliminate running wires in the car? If anything you have run the data cable inside the car to use it, lol.

Sounds like he probably only changes tunes once in a while and pops the hood. It wasn't clear to me from the install instructions that the ODB-II cable was a net benefit to the tune. The install for that takes 5 minutes though and isn't very hard, seems worth it.

But when it comes to monitoring / changing maps / updating firmware, the Bluetooth makes a lot of sense!

Is there a second OBD2 under the hood? I swore I saw one in a photo the other day and I haven’t remembered to check under my hood.

What are you talking about? The JB4 has a USB plug running from it. I have it folded, zip tied, and tucked away in the engine bay.

When I update the firmware I hook it up to my computer, make the changes, and put everything back. It doesn't need to be routed to the car for any of that.

JB4 is your masterpiece, how do you not know this???
