Cold Air Intake Installation

Does anyone know if this voids warranty
Not in the US. We have a law against it. I believe Kia would have to prove the CAI was the direct cause of the issue. Not sure about you folks in Canada though.

Maybe...In the US at least there is a law that says they have to prove your modifications caused the problem in question. So technically the answer is no, however, in reality Kia has deeper pockets than the consumer, it is not unheard of for them to just say yep that caused the problem, and we are not covering it. At that point you have to get a lawyer and sue, you may or may not win, but it's almost guaranteed that the court proceedings will cost more than just paying for the repair..

Nah. Take them to small claims court. It’s like a $35 fee. They would then have to hire a $500 an hour atty to appear for them. They’d settle quick.

Maybe... I am sure Kia has lawyers on staff so it wouldn't cost them anything, and small claims court is limited to 5k.

Also I have not read the warranty close, but I would not be surprised at all if there was a clause that all lawsuits have to be brought in front of a certain court. This is pretty standard for everything now.. (I know my company states all suits have to be brought forward in NY)

Trust me. Kia doesn’t have lawyers admitted to practice in every state. If they did, they’d have to fly them out from Kia Corp. that won’t be cheap. Just saying.

That's why I am sure the contract states you have to sue them in a certain state... In fact I would be super surprised it the contract didn't say you have to go through mediation before you can even sue them..

Nothing really "voids" a warranty. However, if they can prove that the aftermarket item you installed was a direct cause of the issue you are having serviced, then they can deny your warranty claim.

First Kia I own so I can't say what the practice is with Kia Canada, but speaking from past car ownership with Lexus, having a good relationship with the dealer/service manager goes a long way. Planning on having the same positive connection with my Kia dealer. ;)

I have read in another forum, that you can buy these filters as stand alone, and just take off the current filters and replace without replacing the whole mounting unit etc. It said that the stock configuration would allow for the additional airflow, once the filters are changed, so why go to the expense and effort of changing everything. Thought?

I also read in another post that the full replacement rubs up against the A/C assembly and required additional modification to prevent that from happening. Can't seem to find the post where I read that thou.

I know these are not legal in California. What are California Stinger owners putting in? or they still going this K&N Typhoon route?
What is the work around?

The heat shield sits against an AC line but it’s wrapped in pretty thick foam. Also neither the line nor the heat shield move much if at all. It’s something I will pay attention to but not that I’m worried about.

Only issue you can create is with oiled filters in combination wit a MAF-based injection system.
Scooby’s had a lot of engine troubles cos customers used too much oil, fouling the MAF-sensor and messing up the AFR.

It's THEIR burden of proof. I've had dealers threaten me with things and take all sorts of pictures for me to come in later to tell them how their statements aren't scientifically sound.

I just bought the K and N drop in air filters. Cheaper, faster..

Most people install an aftermarket intake for sound as well as performance. The drop in filters do nothing to enhance sound whereas the intake changes it dramatically. It arguably adds better performance at higher rpms as well.

I just installed one. I LOVE the sssssss sound starting from 2000rpm onward and then PSHHH if you let off the throttle. I spooled up and some kid sitting in the passenger seat of his mom's CUV was like "whoooa" when he heard the intake sounds, hahaha.

No noticeable difference in power; the value is the sound and looks in the engine bay only. I did a launch control with the intake, and best time was 4.73s (with a full tank of gas tho) vs. 4.65s as my best time a few months ago (not a full tank, but bottom line, no difference. You need a tune with an intake and a freer flowing exhaust I feel)
