Carwow drag race against Arteon R SB

Did you also post this on FB? It's pretty obvious: AWD vs RWD (Stinger), wet surface, not horribly different power and/or power-to-weight values.

That Arteon (wish they sold that wagon over here!) would beat a Scat Pack, and probably even a Hellcat on that specific surface.

The Arteon looks like the little brother to the RS6...not a fan of the looks.
Too station wagony......is that a word...lol
Thats not a fair fight at all in those conditions....

Looks are subjective, so I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm a "go before show" and "utility before looks" kind of guy - I still miss the functionality of my previous car - '05 Legacy GT wagon with > 300 hp. Plus, with the weather turning colder and condensation on the car in the morning, I'm jealous as heck of that rear wiper!

Saw this.

Even the comments on the video know whats up.

A rwd on wet surface? Even a civic would gap us.

Horrible choice of planning but either way on rolls it destroyed the arteon. On dry proper surface it would destroy it even more.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I feel bad for the UK. The Stinger is only available in RWD in right-hand drive configuration, and the UK could really use AWD. They also get short changed on features, like no custom drive modes and no variable exhaust. On top of that, they get to pay 60k (43k GBP) for the privilege.

Carwow is based in the UK. Probably half of their videos are in the wet.

A few years back they did a AWD C43 vs C63s video. The 385 hp AWD car beat the 505 hp RWD car.

Like that race, the only thing it shows is the difference AWD can make in a race.

For me, the most curious part of this video is the hard time the Stinger had reeling him in after they got off the line.

Over 300hp 4 bangers are dangerous with good gearing like that one

With a similar weight to the Stinger 3.3, I think it shows how well that DSG trans performs in the VW vs the conventional automatic that also has more drivetrain loss in the Stinger.

I don't think they offer AWD, for the 3.3T at least, in the UK for whatever reason.

If we had that Arteon spec here I wouldn’t own a Stinger.

I might not either. I had a GTI and had been waiting for the Arteon, I test drove one after they first came out and it felt incredibly gutless. It was very disappointing. Gorgeous car though.

Interesting take. I didn't like the Arteon when cross-shopping against the Stinger. The C-series AMG wagon though, that would have been my choice if it was available in the US.

I've had a couple GTI and Jettas, and my wife has had a few VWs. All great cars for us. So yeah, I probably would've gone for an Arteon R, especially a shooting brake style if it had been available. But the Stinger is just way more bang for the buck than the US version of the Arteon. I have no regrets leaving VW for Kia at this time.

The performance is what held it back for me. I liked the rest of the package more than the Stinger.

Don't use the cesspool that is FB.

Think most people here understand that AWD > RWD in wet conditions, something that Matt even stated in the video; plus the Arteon has the DSG.

Too bad we won't ever see a 48V 2.5T with a wet DCT in the Stinger.

That would be one heck of a set-up.
