I'm looking into getting and/or making a custom keyfob. The only lead I have on the work below is, a shop located in Korea called MasterCarbon. Outside of that I haven't been able to find a what's app numbers or website nothing.

Supposedly they required you to ship a keyfob into be altered. However my question is how do you take the buttons n button frame off. I don't see any screws. So would I just heat it up n pry it off assuming it's adhesive/plastic welded. Or would you not remove it?

Then the question is should I sand down the fake leather or whatever you may wish to call it and apply a thin layer of the choosen matieral.

DIY thoughts?

1. Open the key via as if I'm replacing the battery. Take the internals off and save them for after the key is done so no need to reprogram.

2. Either remove the buttons n frame or not. If not then I would say polish the metal n buttons n such then electric plating? Would the button logos stay as there prepainted/recessed?

3. Sand down the shell everywhere by maybe 1-5mm. Spray adhesion promoter then lay down the new shell with epoxy or some sort of glue. Keeping in mind to put a little needle in the pinhole.

4. Polish/rubber excess adhesive materials. Then put back the internals and snap close.

For the molds it could be as simple as just sand down then get a clay and form it to its original shape take it off while it's still soft n let it harden. Then silicone it and now you got a mold. Depending on the matieral sand cast it or 3d print idk.

A whole another approach break the donor key fob for the button and its frame. Then build two outside panels and 3d print the internals plastics as needed. Then attach everything. Much harder then my method I would say.

Why?

Don't mess with your key, buy a OEM key on ebay and send them that. Then when they send it back all nice and carbon fibery, just drop your internals in. The board comes out very easy, you take the key out and pry it open. Try it for yourself, you'll need to do that every couple years to change the battery anywayz. Good luck hunting down whoever makes those.

I would send it in, but I have no contact info. Hence I'm looking into DIY. A oem key on eBay is like 40$.

I have already opened them up. Basically as long as you got your programmed internals you can drop them in any key fob.

Hence I was gonna use my beat up key and modify it. If it doesn't work then 40$ ebay key/junkyard one and back to new. I have two sets of keys so no biggie if it takes a while.

Any info on contacting them?

I haven't been as active in the forums.

I ending up just DIYing it. So I got around 4 keys. 2 oem , 2 I bought for cheap just to experiment with.

I sanded the exterior on one and not the other. Then just wrapped it with vinyl. The more time you take the better it will look. It will take a few tries bewarned.

The key I sanded adhered the vinyl better, where as nonsanded wasn't as nice but worked fine. You can not sand and wrap. Then if it isn't durable sand and rewrap it.

You can fill the void of the kia logo on the for with any filler that hardens then sand flush. Polish the metal first and all that jazz, mask it, then wrap it.

Edit: found the post I made.
