Canadian Buyers - How much did you pay vs. MSRP?

Keeping in mind that the dealer only has so much negotiation room. Here is the Dealer Invoice Pricing:

2019 Kia Stinger 3.3 T-GDI GT Ltd All Wheel Drive
Base MSRP: $49,995
Invoice Price: $47,170

The markup on the vehicle is:
$2,825

Based on your numbers it appears that your dealer is making approx $500 off markup plus holdback (1.5% - 3%???)
I my opinion, they are giving you a pretty solid deal, with leaving only a little on the table for themselves. Not sure they have much more to give. I got pretty much the same deal on a demo w/ 8000k on it, yours is brand new.
Another $1000 - $1500 off and they would be losing money on the deal. At a $1000 off, they are in the red @ minus $500 and $1500 off, minus $1000. No harm in asking, the worst they can say is no.

Just trying to give you an idea of the numbers they are working with.

Hope you have that Stinger in your driveway soon, with a solid deal.

That little number is exactly the unknown variable I was looking for... :)

Knowing that little number makes all the difference.... Now that you are informed, you have a good idea if the deal on the table is hot or not.

With a little math, yes. I go into a dealership knowing the total value of what I want to pay by the end of the term (say, 50K all in or whatever). I know this equals 833.33/mth of that is the final sum of what is paid over a 60mth term. It's seems I'm constantly having to juggle between the trade, final sum, etc...only to end up with an agreed monthly payment lol.

On my deal, the dealer was adamant they could not give me the trade value I wanted (even though I was only shooting for the low value of the Black Book, the car was in excellent condition), they asked if they could take it off the price, which I conceded that I don't care where the money is coming and going, just meet this payment and we'll call it good lol.

It's not so much what I can afford, it's how much I'm willing to pay lol.

Perhaps the pricing changed with the new month, but just for fun, here's my data for the following vehicle :

Source: CarCostCanada on September 29th 2019 for a new car in Quebec
2019 Kia Stinger GT Limited AWD
Base MSRP: $52,090
Invoice Price: $49,035

The dealership showed me the base price as being $49890 or something like that (±100), which is about 2% profit right there.

The administrative fees and transport amounted to about $1800 (±200).

I got a $1365 rebate and a deal on some accessories (still paid for them), being winter studded Nokian tires, extra set of wheels and tinted windows (tint paid full price).

I ran into this issue as well, fretting over if I am being charged dealer admin fee's, how I get for my trade, how much of a discount I am getting. Forget all that, as long as you know what factory incentives are available (cash discount, or 0% int. Etc) and you know the value of your trade (incl the tax), and you have their invoice pricing, they can charge whatever they want, as long as they are at your "all in" price. I also worked with my bi- weekly price, that is fine just as long as they don't extend your term.

I think you're probably right. I feel like I'm hitting a threshold and they struggling to beat each other now. I'm not an unreasonable person and I know they have to make some profits, which they will over the next few years on my financing but as you said, it doesn't hurt to ask. At this point, it's not even the $50-$100 more I can get off that will determine who gets my business, but the quality of the dealership experience so I think I already have an idea of who I'm going with even if they are a few $ more. I'm debt-free so a part of me is excited to have not only a brand new model year car for the first time, but a powerful luxury car at that. I've always bought older used cars that I could financially afford to buy with cash so I've never had to finance before. However, there is the more money conscious sensible part of me that is actually getting quite anxious at the thought of being in debt of $40k over the next 5-6 years.

Yeah sadly I bought in September. Kind of sucks (for me) that they put a 0% financing this month ! At least I'm at 0.9%.

Hi there I read through the forums but saw most replies on GT Ltd. I'm looking to buy a used Kia stinger 2018 GT at 36,900$ at 6.8% financing. Is it possible to negotiate a dealer down to lower monthly payments with the 0% promo? I've seen people able to negotiate 2k off of a new 2019 but does that get you a better out the door price than my used option?

Thanks. Located in Ontario if that's any help

I was in your shoes about 3.5 weeks ago. Opted for the new 2019 GT Limited. The 2K number is pretty spot on. I don't see why they would say no if you ask for a 2K reduction, they'd keep a little bit over 1K in raw profit + accessories and prep.

If it can help you, I'm at 0.9%, 163$/wk over 7 yrs (I'll pay it off before that). I said "no" to extended warranties.

Hi Everyone,

I am about to sign on this, let me know if you believe it is a good deal

New (not demo) KIA Stinger GT Limited Panthera Metal 2019 (one of the last 2019 still available in Quebec)
PDSF 52 140
Kia "Cash" Discount -5 000
Dealer Discount -2 260
3 years Maintenance & Tire (Not sure about the value of this)
Warranty coverage even if I modify it (JB4, intake etc.)

= 44 880 before 15% Quebec Taxes

-----------------

I feel a bit silly to replace my BMW 535i MSport with this but it is now 9 years old and I felt in love with the Stinger. BMW was not able to offer me anything close to this deal even for a 330i...

You'll never miss the 5er , very good deal imho

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I decided to wait that the crisis around COVID-19 passes. The Sales Director is willing to give me the same deal on a 2020 when I am ready (except that KIA "cash" rebate in only 3000$ right now, might be more when I will be ready...). Also if the 2020 brochure are correct 2020's are getting LSD on the limited which is a nice addition. I will post an update when I pull the trigger.

How come I haven’t seen anyone do the lease/early buyout loophole for this car in Canada? Seems like something to take advantage of. Is it not possible to do in Canada?

I'm pretty sure we don't get those crazy lease deals up here in Canada. It's only the USA market that Kia has been offering them. Even with their crazy lease buyouts they still typically pay the equivalent to what we do when paying full MSRP here. The MSRP is a lot higher in USA vs Canada.

Correct we do not have any deals on the leases for the Stinger, they cost as much as M340i or C43 to lease if not more so it make no sense.... But we can easily buy a Limited AWD (GT2) for 47KCAD which is about 33KUSD with the current exchange rate. Since I am keeping my car 6-7 years, buying a Stinger will make sense for me the car enthusiast want to buy one now but I will be reasonable and wait the crisis to be stabilized.

Did you end up picking up the GT?

I was in your shoes last year and I ended up purchasing a used 2018 GT at $35K tax in (financed $31K @ 4.6%). I am going to pay it off early so i didnt care for the interest rate but I did haggle with the dealer. Their initial offer to me was $36K plus taxes at 6.99% interest. It was a lengthy process (close to three weeks of me not budging from my budget)

I just bought a 2020 Stinger GT Limited in Ghost Grey for $49,150. I might've got a better deal if I held out longer, but then I risked having my trade in value decrease as COVID-19 runs wild. I'm happy with what I got :)

Picked up a used 2018 GT limited for $34,000. Had 21k KM on it. Pretty happy :)
