Can my GT be programmed for bigger tires?

Love my 19 inch wheels, but I want more sidewall so the ride is smoother. I'll be switching out the summer tires before it gets cold, so may as well get the best from that move. I've had this done on other vehicles, but this is my first venture into a Kia. Thanks!

Changing the OD is going to cause issues with speedometer readings. And any increase in OD might start contacting surfaces in the wheel wells. If there is plenty of room for a larger OD, then the only obstacle is modifying the speedometer readout; that sounds simple but it might be involved/expensive. Or, it might be impossible without swapping out stuff. I am no gearhead.

(edit to add: I do know that Kia warns against putting on different tires than those that came with the vehicle, especially different sized tires.)

Thanks, I know all that, this is my 79th car... But, computer programming can be adjusted for higher sidewalls, at least on American autos. Then I will pick one that won't rub....

Switch to 18" rims with a higher profile tire (e.g 225/45 R18) - you'll increase the sidewall height on the rubber while keeping the overall diameter of the tire the same - the speedometer will read the same.

The size of sidewalls doesn't matter in OD. That only affects handling and top speed (safely, anyway). If you determine that the OD is non negotiable, then you are saying that you will get smaller wheels in order to have higher side walls. And the 'puter won't know the difference when the OD stays the same.

For example, on my 2015 Srt 392, I used my Predator programmer to adjust the tire size. I'm wanting to know if I can do the same with a Kia. I know every other option available.

I don't think there is anything on the market to change it yet. And I'm sure Kia dealerships won't do it.

But unless you're putting 35" MTs the change to the speedo will be miniscule (probably less than 2 mph at 65+ mph).

Rather than changing size of sidewall why not get more comfortable tire? Soft sidewall tire make for comfort.

That's a fair question. My assumption is that the stiffer sidewall tire is key to the excellent handling and weight of the car.

The answer is no, unless you use a third party device that supports it, or a tuner that modifies the ECU.

I do not think anything can be done. If you want a answer take to your dealer. They will need the vin to open up a case with technical assistance. FYI-on the 18 Toyota Tacomas tons of safety features and hardware. Aftermarket lift throws all of this off and it will not work. Toyota makes it near impossible to do aftermarket work. As all of these systems get more advanced dealers have very little room to modify. Most dealers do not want to be sued as a result of something that could or will fail. Safety first.

If your wheels are 19s, make sure the A/S you pick are speed rated well above 167 MPH.
