Buying a 2022 GT2

I applied incentives from the kia homepage and got about 2K below MSRP, but otherwise it's hard to get anyone to budge these days. At first they wanted a 5 or 6K "dealer markup". That shit is just criminal.

6k markup?! Heck no

Yeah, I put that to bed early on. I pointed to their internet add which said "SELLING PRICE" (without ADM). Words mean things.

I tracked down a 2021 GT1 for 47,640 OTD after tax/tags/dealer fees, ECT. Should I jump on this?
Tax on what? The full car price or the difference on your trade?

What was the final sell price for just the car, before taxes and fees? AWD or RWD?

No trade, tax on price of the car. That's the out the door final price on a '21 GT1 AWD.
It's a fair deal then, all things in today's market considered. Just be aware that when the market normalizes and normal depreciation returns the loan, if you have one, is going to be upside down for several years. Although not as severe as with some model cars, expect 20% first year and maybe 10% second depreciation.

That probably is a good enough deal in today’s market. However, in April I got a fully loaded 2021 AWD GT2 for $45,300. Insane what they are able to charge for these cars now.

Yeah, someone is always going to tell you how they found a desperate dealer with the last year's car on the lot and how they whittled them down to $3 and some shakey's pizza vouchers thrown in.

Some dealers have no problem moving inventory. When they can move inventory, they are unlikely to budge on prices. When you have certain features you want, they know you have to order the car or are limited to one or two, they start holding a lot more cards then, because they don't "have to" get rid of the inventory. If you are finding situations where there is old inventory and the dealer just wants to get rid of it, congratulations. That is usually the very last option for any business, as far as taking a loss or not making any money, but in many cases they'll make money on other aspects, like financing kickbacks from the local CU/bank they partner with and so on.

I'm also looking to buy one. I went to Taylor KIA the other day. They had one on the lot with the Scorpion package (I'm not interested in that) and a $10K markup. I'm not spending that much. My current car is running fine. I don't NEED to get anything new right now so I'm content with being patient until I can get something at least at MSRP.

$10k seems to be a bit much. Hopefully no one buys it at that markup, sends dealers the wrong message.

I have received certificate offers from my AmEx Platinum Card for 3.5% or more on a Stinger GT1 and GT2, but when brining it to dealers, they say they won't honor it. Even if the deal and certificate is customized to that specific dealer. They only give the current Kia rebate of $1500. I too am in no hurry, I have a 2018 that I was offered 41K trade-in (9200 miles on it only) and would be open to a new 2022 if they only honored the 3.5% .... anyone tried this type discount and was successful?

Just so I know what I missed out on, can I know what's the crazy good deal price point and what shall I negotiate towards now?
Sorry for the late reply.

February of 2020:

2020 Stinger GT RWD (no options / base model) for $36k out the door

I had a Buick dealer several years ago try to deny a private offer credit that BUICK (corp) sent me. Their tune changed immediately when I called corp from my cell phone right in front of them. Maybe you need to do the same and call Kia corp while at the dealership. I think those deals are negotiated at a high level between companies, corp probably wants to know this is taking place.

Yeah, the dealer tried to tell me that the 400 discount for “active duty, retired and honorably discharged” didn’t apply to veterans. I read it to them abs showed them my paperwork. They said veterans have never been able to get it. The dealership manager spent a half hour on the phone yelling at the regional guy because they’d lost sales on this and been denying it to everyone else. I got it and 400 is free money I won’t leave sitting around. Kia is supposed to credit the dealers back these incentives.

Following my local dealer's request for $10K over sticker, I started doing a search of the inventory at dealers within reasonable driving distance. It seems that, at least on their websites, most dealers are happy taking MSRP. Some are even offering upwards of $4K off sticker. And it wasn't one or two that I found within my general region that were just asking sticker. It was the majority.

I just got an email from my salesperson at the local dealer, telling me that I need to expect to pay over sticker. I plan to take him my robust findings. I'll be sure to share my experience, but anyone else looking for a 2022 and are running into a similar situation might want to try a similar approach.

This month $1K Kia customer cash on '22 GT-Line, and $1.5K on GT1&2... even with low supply, Stingers don't seem to be moving off lots around here (Pacific NW). Some dealers are showing below MSRP prices on their websites...

Try calling them...I called a dealer today in Alhambra, website says 51k - loaded GT2...when I called they said car cost is $63k prior to taxes...OTD $69K, absolutely ridiculous pricing.

I was sad when I read an article speculating that stinger might be killed in 2022, but with this dealer attitude - I don't think this car stood a chance.

Weird if that's the case. I did some comparisons with regional Kia dealers, looking at what they list Stingers at and what they list Tellurides at. They regularly list the Tellurides as $3K above MSRP and Stingers regularly at or below MSRP. I don't imagine that they're only listing the Tellurides above MSRP.

I gave my local Kia dealer until EOD tomorrow to tell me if they'll be able to work at MSRP. If they can't, I'm going to start calling other dealers in the region.

As far as the Stinger being killed off, I've also heard that possibility. Sales have been in the decline since its first full year on sale. I don't imagine that will magically turn around any time soon. Those declining sales are also another reason why anyone charging above MSRP is a little off. Pre-pandemic, these cars weren't flying off the showroom floor and I've seen numerous people mention that they got their Stinger below MSRP pre-pandemic.

I got mine in Dec 2020, during the pandemic but just as the car bubble started to build and mine was $4500-ish off MSRP after dealer and Kia incentives. Car prices really took off shortly after, so early 2021.
