Broken Differential

Sounds like Kia has a handle on this.
Personally, I wouldn't wait for the dealer if the fluid is on b/o.
Fact is, any mechanical LSD I buy is getting a diff fluid change -
and a specific amount of slip additive after as few miles as possible.
Corvette, Camaro, Challenger ALL grind on turns.
Electronic LSD eliminates all the clutch grabbing by releasing them with an actuator.
Kia has been testing Stingers w/ ELSD, maybe on the 2020 model - idk.

Wow this is very concerning as I just started noticing a strange sound coming from the rear end of my Stinger.

I know some LSD (Limited Slip Differential)’s will make minor noises when making sharp turns, but it seems to be getting a little worse. Now you got me thinking it may not be normal and should have the dealer check it.

So same question, did you feel or hear anything different leading up to it? Can I have your dealership name in case I need to reference your experience?

Thanks for posting and any extra info is greatly appreciated.
I started hearing a slight grinding noise at low speeds while in the parking garage. I took it in for maintainable and told kia about the issue. They confirmed the issue and ordered a new differential and will be replacing it. Said I could keep driving until it arrives

They are replacing it before trying the new special Singer specific gear oil? Did they already test it and find metal shavings? Be careful driving if it gets any worse. Think the OPs differential came apart while driving because it got so bad.

I brought it in expecting the gear oil change out. When I went to pick it up I was informed about the replacement. It is barely noticeable. I had the back seats down driving in a covered garage before I heard it.
I am driving my wife’s yellow gt2 in tomorrow to see if it has the same issue. Couldn’t hear anything on open road. I think hers is ok... after a month in the paint booth...

Wonder if Lemon Law will play into, into this if we see this reoccurring throughout the Stinger customer base...

I hate to say it but I was one of the first differential replacements in the USA, and a couple months later I’m having the same issue with the new one. I now have to go back to Kia to have the new gear oil added to the replaced differential. Guess the replacement still didn’t have the upgraded gear oil in it yet, so I would make sure you get it ASAP.

PS: You can hear it best on tight u-turns or reversing while turning, but only if using throttle. You can’t hear it without giving it a little gas and can’t hear it on normal turns.

Easy test, due a figure 8. Turn steering wheel all the way to lock, then slowly accelerate one direction. Then turn to lock the other way while giving it a little gas too. Any noises?

If not, you may be ok but do suggest getting the new gear oil either way.

I’m sure it will, but only if they completely repair and/or replace the differential 3 times with no success. When I came back with the same noise on new differential they flagged my account as a “2nd Service Alert” and the service director immediately became my new best friend. They and I really don’t want it to be lemon lawed so they are taking it very seriously. I have to go back this week for new gear oil and so far everyone in Australia with new oil said it completely solved the issue. Think Kia’s got it under control now and assume new Stingers will get the upgraded gear oil from factory going forward.

if new oil solves the problem, then definitely not. Doesn't matter if every single stinger is affected.
