Black Chrome Discoloring

Ok guys.....just picked up GT2 white with red interior on Saturday......love almost everything EXCEPT this black chrome crap.....checked with a reputable dealer who says wrapping front grille would be nearly impossible .....don't really have spots to attach to.....any reasonable choices out there.....paint, replacing etc?
LW , that front grill surround is not an issue for wrapping , they have to cut one large piece large enough to cover the complete piece , edge it in and trim the inside and out , a good vinyl guy could do it in 30 mins , check out the Sema Stinger ALL of the chrome was wrapped in CF vinyl .............good luck

You go boy , all the chrome could be done in a day , Soul #1.webpI did this one myself 3 years ago ,click for more detail

When I did PPF the guy covered those pieces too. So they look like new all the time.

that combo with the roof is definitely good looking !
I am quite happy with the ThunderGrey and the black chrome, compliments each other a lot. Though all CF wraps isnt a bad choice !!

Back on topic.

Got my car back from the dealer...they fixed a few things but refused to fix the black chrome under warranty. I am 99% sure that my problems are not water spots as some of you are posting about, it looks like the top layer of the trim (clear) is separating from the layer underneath (the black chrome colored layer). However, just in case, I am going to have my detailer look at it next week when they do my tint package (best detailer in Oregon).

If it bothers me enough I guess I will get those pieces wrapped or some day replace them. Maybe find a more sympathetic dealership.

File a complaint with Kia USA ...........thats the best way to get action , good luck !

It’s a defect and KIA is replacing mine. (Canada)

can you show what was your issue ? and what is Kia Canada actually replacing ?
thanks !

Adding my name to the list here. On mine, it looks.....bad and toward the front there seems to be peeling of the protective "coating" as well. I have not discussed mine with Kia yet. (With the G35 in the shop, can't take er in as walking the 25 miles to work is less than ideal lol)

Mine's doing the same. Let me know what ends up happening with it, my dealer is >100 miles away. Lol.

Have either of you guys combined cleaning products? I suspect that different cleaners and coatings if used in combination could produce this effect.

Hate to ask but is the clear tape still on it from shipping?

It’s a warranty item for sure if not.

Took me a couple of days to realise that the dealer hadn't taken all of this protective coating off from around the windows. :(

Possible, but anything you use shouldn't be affecting ONLY this trim part, you know? My Mirror cap, front bumper, and front brake vent trim are all perfect, so is the paint.

Nah. I'm 20k miles and a year and a half into the car. If there's plastic on the trim, it's so baked in that you'd need a scalpel to separate it. I feel like it has to be fading clear coat, because it goes away if I get it wet or grease it up (McDonald's french fry fingers and morbid curiosity. It looked good for a day or two. Lol).

At first I thought it was just oils from hands eating away at the trim (It started right above the black plastic, where one might be touching the trim more), but it's doing it everywhere on the trim pieces, so something is funky.

I'm half tempted to not even bother with the dealer and just Vinyl coat it piano black, because the trip out to the dealer is such a pain in the ass.
