Audio Keeps Popping / Cutting Out Randomly

Yeah I've already dug thru this site for the brake problems. Once in awhile I'll go out to start it and get a dead pedal. I've heard of it on 19, 20, and mines a 21. Everyone says the dealer tells them they can't duplicate, their favorite phrase.

I haven't noticed any dead brake pedals, but I have noticed that occasionally when I first put on the throttle like when turning out of my driveway, it feels like the car goes completely limp for a second. It doesn't seem to do it if I have the car warm all the way up to temp, but I also convinced it's the lip at the end of my driveway causing the traction control to freak out and cut power for a second.

This 21 has been nothing but a pain in the ass from the radio to the coils to the back driver side window going out.

Mine has been a pretty ok experience overall other than the radio problem driving me insane on road trips. My biggest gripe has been the bridgestone all seasons that came on the car might be the worst tires ever made. I've had 2 random flats the past 3 months for no apparent reason. Both tires passed a leak test after filling them up by the sidewalls were toast. No nails, screws, slashes, nothing. Quite weird.

And even still the cars so good none of that would bother me, but I'm an hour from the nearest dealership.

Ahh yeah that's definitely frustrating. Luckily I have about 10 different Kia dealerships within an hour drive of me. Unfortunately the closest one to me is this god awful one that keeps f*cking around with my car.

Turbo lag...

You don't say which engine you have. I notice this too with the 2.5T. My drive has a very slight (5deg?), I park backed in so just need to drive out. Those first few blocks the car feels like it's lacking most of its power. Of course I don't give it lots of throttle when cold, nor do I let it warm up for more than a minute. Within a few blocks the power improves. After a mile, although still cold, the power is plentiful for city driving.

Re bridgestone tires... re97as-02 belongs in the trash.

I haven't posted here in forever but I'm going to give major kudos to the service department of Koons Kia of Owings Mills, specifically Stephanie and Logan, for taking the time to work through this issue with me and seek authorization from Kia Tech Line to replace the coil packs. Once completed (last week), the popping/fading issue has thus far not returned.

Thanks to all on this forum who did the major legwork of figuring this thing out. It would be good to hear whether Kia issues a TSB for this. I followed the advice of verifying that it only occured when the engine was running. REALLY WEIRD that the coil packs resolved an audio issue but, electrical systems and so forth. Thanks again, all!

I have a gt2 and after a little bit of investigation, I am pretty certain it's the traction control freaking out when I go over the lip in my driveway. If I turn TC off, it doesn't do it at all.

It doesn't feel like it's just not putting power down it's like a straight throttle cutoff like the computer thinks I'm going into a slide or something. Very similar to how it cuts your pedal out if you're sliding on ice.

Wow, the coincidence of timing, mentioning Koons for totally different reasons. You love them, and they are being sued. The world is a crazy place. Bad - Koons Kia of Owings Mills, MD - Settlement
Wow, some things never change. Merlin, you've made a conclusory statement that I love them after I had a good experience with the service department. I never said I loved them, just giving appropriate credit where it is due to their service department. I have not purchased from them. It was coincidental that I saw the same article yesterday in my local news.

No worries mate. Anytime someone at kia doesn't make you contemplate how'd you fair in prison they deserve a first name shout out lol

Thanks for updating us! Maybe some day I'll figure out why mine crackles all the time haha.
im getting the crackle as well but only after i drive for like an hour or so , but its only when the car is running kinda weird . did you ever fix it ?

Nope. Annoyed me until the last day of ownership, unfortunately.

no kidding , well back to the drawing board on this , i cant get any warranty service on mine since i have a large custom audio install done , but its def the oem headunit making or picking up the noise , mines not cutting out but just low volume crackle , only when i use the oem source / radio if i use my (dap) digital audio player no noise , i can switch back and forth between sources noise/no noise . and only when the car is running , so im thinking interference on some level , maybe i have a coil going bad ill check them out too.

The dealer finally broke down after 2+ years of trouble and side stepped Kia Warranty process and replaced all coil packs. Guess what, fixed it... after 2 years of telling them what the fix was. Even directed them to this thread. Its been 2 months now and no issues. if you have Jessica Weaver as your Kia claims rep I suggest you ask for another, worthless in her job. Now begins the battle for reimbursement.

Don't they have to remove the intake to get to some of the coils? That means trusting that they will re-seal it, right?

You can remove the coils without removing the intake manifold, you just need knuckled socket extensions to get under the throttle body.

I just read all six pages of this thread.
In the 3 years I’ve had my GT I have also randomly experienced the audio system volume suddenly fading away with what sounds like faint static on an FM receiver until it goes completely silent.
I shut off head unit and turn it back on and presto I have full sound again. This has happened probably half dozen times..

I tell ya owning this car has been a bit like dating that hot crazy chick when I was younger. She was gorgeous and fun to run with for a while but after getting to know her better I realized I had better run for the hills to avoid the impending nightmare.

I just started getting the stuttering under acceleration yesterday evening. I have not experienced any radio issues. A very car-smart coworker believes it's the coil packs or plugs. I got the Check Engine symbol once while cruise was set and I was going up a steep incline. My problem is that I purchased my vehicle certified used in NC and the maintenance coverage is with that dealership brand. However, there is no Kia dealership under that brand name in Charleston, SC where I am working during the week. The closest dealership under that name is a Toyota dealership, where I've taken it once for an oil change and multi-point. It looks like I will have to take it to the nearest KIA dealer for them to possibly check the coil packs (assuming they are truthful and actually check), and IF they happen to see that they are corroded, then get them to change them.

I am really not in a position to leave my vehicle with a dealer, as I have no other vehicle with me since I do not live in Charleston full-time. How much would 6 coil packs cost? I have more confidence in my friend/co-worker to check them and replace them than compared to a dealership, given the stories I've read over the previous six pages of this thread. I would also prefer to get the car running back to normal than to go back and forth to a dealership that will delay as long as possible.

All feedback is, of course, much appreciated.

If I remember correctly the coil packs are $75 each on the OEM parts site.

It’s still working. Cutout and crackle free since the day they were all replaced. I would recommend buying the 20 bucks worth of tools to remove the coils yourself and see if they looked like mine did.

Jfol you are the man! Bought an 18 stinger 3 months ago, crackle started a few weeks after purchase and continued to get worse. Found your thread and tried it in ACC mode, works like charm. Changing coil packs as we speak. Looking forward to enjoying this sound system!
