Another rattle hatch repair.

Just ordered some. The thing I didn't like about adding washer was that it made the trunk look out of line and it added road noise. I will see how this looks. Either way, I want less road noise from the hatch and I think this will help a little.

Day 2 commuting, I don't think I've heard a single rattle or thunk from the hatch since installation of the rubber weatherseal.

Should be noted that I did a variation on the washer fix for the thunk, so I rarely had any issues with the trunk lid anymore but even those few rattles have seem to been resolved. I'll report on anything new I come across related to this, otherwise this is my last update [no news = good news moving forward].

I have to say that this seal all the way around makes more sense than anything else I've read about in the years that this has been occurring. Should my hatch ever begin making noise or letting in road noise, I'm going straight to this latest idea for a solution before I try anything else.

Just did this. I tried the whole trunk but it would not close. So I just did halfway and it works. The trunk now has a solid thunk! I don’t have the trunk rattle in the first place but tried this anyway just to be pro active haha.

I don't understand what you mean by "halfway"; the pics look like you went all the way round the edge.

Yeah. Here is the final installation. The trunk closes now with a solid thunk!

I think I might buy the .187” Height, .375” Width. I'll install it all around and the trunk might close all the way. The one that I have is 375” Height, .625” Width.

So, what you're saying is that the first set of pics, with the strip all the way around, did NOT close, but the second set with only half the strip installed closes? If so, my question is why the OP's and other's installations close with a full strip all the way around and yours does not? Did you get a different thickness of strip or a different product altogether, perhaps?

(edit to add: Another rattle hatch repair. It looks like your strip is not the same as OP's)

I got mine at Amazon. I think he bought his at Homedepot. Mine has the 3m tape.

No. I have just regular struts. So i dont know if that gonna work with power hatch. For the the first couple of days i had to close it harder, because of some resistance. Now it is all good.
Did mine all the way around and had zero resistance to close, not sure if it’s going to help but hopefully!!!

Yeah, the Amazon stuff looks like it has a higher/thicker cross-section. (Lower your rear seat headrests, man, you'll be able to see out your hatch window better! :P)

I wonder if this can be applied to the sunroof somehow for those with a contact rattle?

Installed mine yesterday and did not help any with the rattle. I think in order to eliminate the rattle I need a lot of resistance, so much that it is hard to close. The washers have been the only thing that works, just torn because you can see that my trunk is raised when its closed because of the added resistance. Probably a good idea to add this trim with the washer fix because the added spacers reduces the contact of the hatch with the stock weather stripping.

Did you ever pursue checking the bolts on the hatch hinges and pistons? It could be that your adding that much tension (enough to distort the alignment of the hatch lid with the body) is tightening up what is otherwise loose. See if all the bolts are tight. I remember one commenter on here saying that his right side bolts, either hinge or piston, can't remember which, were not all the way tightened down, and tightening them ended the noises.

i was not aware of this, I will give it a try today. I put my washers back in along with the weather stripping and the noise is still there. It is strange because the washers alone worked when I first bought the car.
