Annoying seat belt reminder chime....GONE!

Sorry did not know. Would you like me to remove the post?
No. It was decades ago. Why did I say anything? "Interesting psychological phenomenon." Nothing more. I would be more inclined to remove my post. But I'll let it stand.

It’s your life, you’re certainly free to take foolish actions.

Exactly, my wife sometimes doesn't wear hers especially if she's a passenger. Even sometimes driving she has the seat all the way forward and raised (she's very short) and the seat belt adjuster all the way down and it still rubs her neck and has even drawn blood before. So, I wouldn't consider it foolish as much as convenient. I wear mine all the time though because I don't have the short person problem.

Certainly are plenty of self-righteous judgmental people on this forum. Ought to be careful to not point out the splinter in another's eye whilst thee ignores the plank within their own eye......

I've always found it interesting that people are so judgemental on the topic of seatbelts. Black and white thinking. A lot like prejudice. Here's the deal: sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you. People have been tossed out of flipping/rolling vehicles and it was judged that had they remained in the wreck they would have died. More often the person who gets tossed out dies or is crippled for life. In a headon, no question, seat/shoulder belts save lives. And headons are the most common accident (even if it is with an immovable object). T-boned is the second most common accident. Rear-ended is the third most common accident. Seatbelts are of little use in either scenario. And it can be argued that if no belt is worn, that a T-bone on the side of the unbelted in person actually is safer because they are not trapped to receive the full brunt of the impact. Enter side airbags. Nevertheless, choosing to belt in is personal. And none of us can say it is a wrong choice. It may be illegal. But so are helmet laws in some places on motorcycles. It's their life. I think that all laws making people take care of themselves against their will are nanny state laws.

My biggest problem with ppl not wearing seatbelts (not talking about on your own driveway) isn't that someone is putting their own life at risk. If someone wants to be stupid/lazy at the risk of their life I couldn't care less, kill yaself, purge the gene pool, have at it.

My problem comes from the possibility of them being ejected from their perch and their big stupid lazy body becoming a 250lb lard filled missile of idiotic reasoning flying through the air at 70 mph, hurling itself at other people, either inside or outside of their car...all in the name of "comfort". :cautious:

carista tunrs off my toyotas chime. I worked on cell sites in the middle of BFE and would often need to close 2-3 gates while talking to tech support, some of them will hang up on you if your belt chimer won't shut up. Anyhow...Murica!

Okay thought i may have offended you you by the post which was not my intention.

Seatbelt chime and light are both codable options on BMW. I find it annoying that the chime continues even when in park. Id prefer the chime to not occur and the light the remain lit.

i would caution unplugging the harness without reference to a wiring diagram to ensure nothing else is "carried" on said harness.

This is in the same bucket for me as "cant put address into Nav unless parked" Wife's 2016 Sorrento allows this so just a bit confusing and annoying.

Wow. My condolences to the OP here! I think it’s a good find. No where did he say he drives without his seatbelt on public roads. We all need to chill out.

I coded out the chime on both of my Audi’s as well and I always wear my seatbelt. The chime is annoying and I don’t need a reminder to buckle up.

To the OP, have you confirmed that removing that plug does not impact any other functions?

My opinion, not wearing your seatbelt when the car you are in is in motion is stupid. Once again, my opinion.

Disabling the alarm is not necessarily stupid. Though, as someone suggested...maybe make sure the thing you unplug doesn't do double duty.

You do realise that unplugging the seat belt chime activates the ejection seat function. I would buy a hard hat or helmet just in case

Yes, some folks around here are a bit uptight, huh?
I have driven the car a couple days now, about 150 miles, no repercussions that I've noticed.
And I agree...the chime continuing in park is what convinced me to disconnect it.

Thanks. I'm going to try it out.

I have the carista box, and a stinger. Ill look at what options it allows mew to play with. The toyotas are locked down, and most dealerships wont help with the seatbelt chime.

Coding options for stinger would be awesome!!!

Carista doesn’t support the Stinger...yet.
Just wear a seatbelt, thus chime problem solved, go & have a chat to Emergency Services personnel who have to attended accidents & deal with the aftermath of not wearing a seatbelt, remember these people have to live with what they see everyday & so many lives lost unnecessarily by not wearing a seat belt....so please everybody listen to the chime & buckle up & enjoy life.

Or you can mind your own business, and pass on lecturing adults because they don’t follow your lifestyle. I get it, you’re the type of guy trying to tell the rest of the world what they should be doing. Carista allows further customization that only dealer s can do, not just seatbelt chimes.

In Australia if you don’t wear a seat belt and get caught you will get a huge fine.
The statistics prove that you have a greater chance of surviving and minimise chances of not getting injuries if you wear a belt. The chime is way of getting you to wear the belt as it drives you nuts so you wear it. For me it’s automatic to put the belt on before I move. I don’t wish to take the risk that some other idiot who might hit me could kill or mame me because I was not wearing my belt.
Would you walk across a busy street with your eyes closed? Basically that’s what you are doing.

However in saying that it’s your life and your risk and your finances that will be affected if you don’t buckle up so it’s your choice. If that’s your game then by all means go right ahead. It’s not unnatural for readers of this thread to try to convince you to wear the belt as for most it’s just common sense.
I bet most of the posters who wish to disconnect the alarm have car insurance so I guess a seat belt is life insurance.

This Carista unit might be a great device to code I just don’t think switching off the seat belt alarm helps the case. The alarm is there to remind most that they have not put their belt on, most people don’t need an alarm as it’s automatic to put the belt on and before they made cars that had alarms we did get on ok but these days people can be preoccupied and do forget so they put in the safety feature of the alarm.
We are not lecturing nor changing anyone’s lifestyle on this forum we are just giving our views. It’s your choice to take heed of others posts, if you don’t then it’s fine with me.
